I was in my car tonight, and had ESPN Radio on following the Cubs’ victory over LA, and Cleveland’s victory over Toronto, and… … once again I was sickened to hear Labron James Radio. Baseball is not fucking basketball. Baseball is not fucking football. “Labron James brought a championship to Cleveland…:” blah blah blah fucking blah. That is what fucking ESPN and the generic “sports fans” don’t understand about baseball. I listened to a factoid about the World Series on ESPN radio this morning: in the 21 years since MLB introduced the wildcard, the team with the best regular season record has won the World Series only four times. And they pointed out that that is the “worst” percentage out of any of the major sports. ESPN (The Labron James Channel) does not fucking understand baseball. ESPN is all about “BIG STARS”. And baseball does not depend on “big stars” to win championships. Baseball depends upon consistency. Unlike basketball, a baseball championship doesn’t depend on giving the ball to one guy over and over and over, like in basketball. A baseball team’s “big star” only gets to come to the plate every ninth at-bat. It’s like the talking heads keep saying how in the NFL, “defense wins games”, and yet when a football team wins, all they can talk about is the fucking quarterback. You can’t do that with baseball. ---

So I stop into what appears to be a perfectly reasonable bar to watch the game and no sooner do I get my beer than some pusbag with an acoustic guitar starts playing the hits of Billy Joel, Britney Spears and Guns N Roses. I could see this going 7 games. The Cubs are a monster against righties but left handed pitchers have caused problems for the Cubs and the Dodgers have some good left arms. Things don’t necessarily get easier for them in LA. I still think the Cubs take the series in 7 but it wouldn’t surprise me to see LA win. Hope not, though. ---

But that’s hilarious. 🙂 That would have been one chant Dodgers and Nats fans joined in together, I’m guessing. ---
