So in this sort of situation should you save your best relievers so they can be at their best tomorrow? ---

My bet is that, unless he gives up about 4 or 5 runs in short order, or his arm falls off, Jake Arrieta will be left out there as long as humanly possible. He wouldn’t pitch under any circumstances tomorrow, and this is his last outing before the off-season, so there’s basically no reason to lift him unless you have to. For Cleveland, i’m really not sure. A realistic assessment of the situation suggests that they’re not going to score enough runs against Arrieta to win the game, and so they might as well save their bullpen too, as much as possible. I imagine they’ll only make moves now if and when they manage to get back in striking distance of the Cubs. As long as the gap is this big, there seems to be no point burning your fresh arms. ---

Game 7 here we come. And I agree with **mhendo** , at this point, the Indians might as well mail it in as far as their pitchers are concerned and save their best arms for tomorrow night. ---

A home run right now, with two on, would change that calculation. Also, it appears i was wrong about the Cubs. I thought they would let Arrieta go further into the game, and i’m not sure why they’re going to Chapman now. Seems crazy to use your high-leverage relief guy now, even with two runners on base. ---

Agree with the above three posts. With a five run lead, why burn Chapman for Game 7? I realize that there will not be a Game 7 if they lose, but bring in someone else unless it gets close. ---
