MLB: April 2016

I’m about to jump on a plane so I’ll miss the first pitch of Dodger baseball but if I’m lucky I’ll catch the end of the game at the hotel. The good news is I’m going to San Diego and am planning to go to game two tomorrow so that totally makes up for missing the game on TV.

The “official” SI picks for 2015 (made just before the season started) looked like this:

American League

Wild-Card Game:

Tigers over Angels

Division Series

Mariners over Tigers
Indians over Red Sox

Championship Series

Indians over Mariners

So it was a case of complete AL wipeout. SI did somewhat better in the National League except for overlooking the Mets and Cubs.

National League

Wild-Card Game

Pirates over Marlins

Division Series

Nationals over Pirates
Dodgers over Cardinals

Championship Series

Nationals over Dodgers

World Series

Indians over Nationals

I am outstandingly mediocre at best in making baseball picks, so I will stick to the teams I root for. The Red Sox will finish over .500 but miss the playoffs largely due to injuries (Sandoval sits down on the end of the bench, flipping several players into the air). The Mets squeak into the wild card game but lose. Cleveland also gets to the wild card game and loses.

The Giants are on pace to hit 648 homers and score 1,944 runs.
I’m sure those numbers will hold up.

Bumgarner batted eighth. I love it when a pitcher is not just a great pitcher, but a decent hitter.

For some reason, I’d completely forgot that Tulowitzki is with the Jays now. I had the game on, while I was concentrating on doing my taxes. When his name skipped across my brain, I looked up at the TV and thought, “I wonder if he’s related.”

Please, please, PLEASE blow your entire season’s offense in Milwaukee this week.

Giants Devil Magic is the thing.

Trying to stay awake for the Cubs (game start 4am local time). Good thing I am currently unemployed!

The Orioles are on pace to finish 162-0.

Clayton Kershaw is a very good baseball player. No need to thank me for that deep analysis.

And while we’re at it, can we get rid of this, “God Bless America” as a secondary national anthem bullshit.

He was the only player in the starting lineup without a hit…though he did have a walk and score a run.

Amen!

The current trend of pitchers batting eighth has nothing whatsoever to do with how well the pitcher bats.

There go those Dodgers, wasting Kershaw again. Welcome back Baseball. It’s good to know that crazy preseason baseball narratives are still with us.

Felix Hernandez gives up one hit and the Mariners lose 3-2.

Are you fucking kidding me. I take off before the first pitch I land and it’s 15-0. Now I’m stuck watching the Angles as my first baseball of the season.

Also seriously we put up 15 behind Kershaw the only pitcher on our roster who doesn’t need run support. Hopefully this is a good sign and we don’t just get shut out the next two games to make up for it.

Seriously, you guys are complaining about a 15-0 win?

Mine was sarcasm. The preseason narrative about the Dodgers was that the front office of egg heads was wasting Kershaw by not having any offense on the team.

Not sure about anyone else.

My complaint was mainly about not getting to watch the fun and being worried that I’m going to go to the game tonight and watch the Dodgers lose since they spent their runs for the series last night.

But seriously I was excited to watch baseball.

That reminds me of my mom; “Save some of those runs for tomorrow, you jerks!”
