In typical Cub fashion, one of the pitchers they acquired at the deadline, Michael Soroka, left his first start with the team after two innings with shoulder soreness. Interestingly, they were playing the Reds, whose starter Nick Lodolo _also_ left the game in the 2nd inning, with a blister on his index finger. ---

Even with the suspensions, the Guardians aren’t going away. Entertaining game last night saw Cleveland choke away a lead but came back to win it in 10. ‘Tis a great season for those who enjoy Yankees suckitude. Milwaukee was smart to walk away from Devin Williams. A night after Williams gave up a game tying homer in the ninth, managerial genius Aaron Boone decides to stick with him no matter what happens. Give up a hit and then two walks to load the bases, and then a lefty coming up? Why, you’d be crazy to bring in Tim Hill. Of course the Yankee ‘offense’ did zilch so it didn’t much matter, anyway. Eovaldi is having a nice season. I always liked that guy. ---

In their last 60 games, the Brewers are 44-16; it’s the best such stretch in franchise history. They now have a four-game lead over the Cubs in the NL Central. ---

Juan Soto replaces Kyle Schwarber as Cleveland’s most hated current player. Swept the Mets tho so that’s pretty cool. We’re 6 out of first place. Seems like a lot but I think we were 19.5 out at one point. ---

Or he could refuse to fill in as a relief pitcher and wind up getting traded for a couple guys in A ball so the team can get out of his contract. There’s always hope though.
