MLB Baseball April 2010 edition or Where is the Baseball thread?

Hey, did everybody know that Bobby Bonilla goes back on the Mets payroll starting July 1?

For the next twenty five years?

I’m absolutely mystified by the Howard extension. The guy’s the size of a house and he’s already not as good a hitter as he used to be. Do they really think he’s going to be worth it starting at 32? His knees will be wrecked.

That’s absolutely unbelievable! What the hell were the Mets thinking? Who was the GM at the time?!

Yeah, I saw that. I’m curious what is the interest rate used to turn 5 million into 30.

I believe it was Steve Phillips

Meanwhile after an awful start the hapless Madoffs, er, Mets have somehow snuck into first place in the NL East. Mainly by going 8-1 against sub-.500 teams, I grant you. They finally play the Phillies later this week, and will face some of the better NL teams (who are looking few and far between) in May. They are near the bottom in most offensive categories and near the top in most pitching ones.

Suddenly it all makes sense…

Didn’t want you to forget: it’s still April. KC Royals are next on the docket.

Wut?

A-ha! The Yankees are only the 4th most hated MLB franchise! Story. Take that Indians and Red Sox fans!

I get the hatred for the Red Sox (most Blue Jay fans think they’re the Evil Empire Lite), but what’s to hate about the Tribe?

Their keeping Chief Wahoo as their logo is unpardonable. Maybe that’s it.

The Reds? The Astros? How have the Astros been on anyone’s radar long enough to hate them?

Something to do with Roger Clemens being one of the more visible Astros in recent years?

Maybe. It’s probably also a +1 for a fan, -1 for a hater - and I doubt the Astros have that big of a fan base outside of Houston. Cincinnati I could also see, since the NL Central has a strong rivalry throughout, and the Cubs and Cardinals pull in the outside fans to the detriment of everyone else.

Also, WRT to the Reds, see: Pete Rose. And Marge “Nazi” Schott.

Cards rock. All other teams bow down before the birds & bats. 'Nuff said.

I guess.

Maybe i’m just prejudiced, but i tend to associate Clemens with the Yankees, and throwing pieces of bat at base runners. When i think of Clemens and the Astros, all that comes to mind is “Three seasons of awesome pitching, accompanied by some Little League-quality run support.”

I can understand the Schott thing, i suppose; my feelings about Pete Rose have more to do with Pete Rose than with the Reds as an organization.

Me too, mhendo, but Rose is a ginormous, unapologetic douchebag that got caught committing the cardinal sin, and he is forever associated with the Reds as a player and manager and many people do hate him for it.

He was the epitome of Western Hills, Cincinnati, the ultimate blue-collar middle class neighborhood. Hometown boy does good, plays for the local team, and then gets caught betting on baseball. He’s got many, many loyal fans in Cincy still due to the way he played the game, but even amongst the Reds fanbase there are many that hate him. I can imagine that people outside the fanbase hate him for what he did to the integrity of the game as well.

And then lied about it. And then lied some more, and then wrote a book about “his own prison” (being the entitled douchebag that he is) and had his book signing in…Las Vegas. And regularly pawns his autographs in Las Vegas.

Dude was a great player, a big dickhead IRL.

“Entitled Douchebag” would have been a great title for his book.
