MLB Hot Stove / Offseason / Lockout 2021-2022

As long as MLB is instituting stupid rules like Universal DH…

How about making it a rule that for every glove adjustment by a batter, the pitcher gets a penalty-free throw at them?

As I think about it, my suggestion is overly complicated. Just say that once the batter steps into the box to start the at-bat, the pitcher can throw pitches whenever he’s ready, whether the batter is in the box or not.

That’s the rule now

My suggestion is for the entire at-bat, not for each pitch as it is now. And with the elimination of “calling time”.

Oooohhh, they’re in trouble now! Dick Durbin has started making noises about revisiting MLB’s anti-trust exemption.

The lockout is over!

Well, well, well. What a coincidence.

Great news, whatever the reasons.

I really hope pace of game is being fixed. I can give a crap about the rest of it.

It’s going to be a fun, free-agent bonanza between now and opening day.

The gist of the agreement, as per ESPN:

It looks like the on-field rules changes, such as a pitch clock, which had been proposed (other than the DH) are being pushed down the road until 2023 or later. There will apparently be a committee, which will include several players and an umpire, which will be proposing said changes.

Right, so the money issues are largely resolved and the far more important issues, pushed off again. Idiots.

Yup. It feels like they are simply unwilling to believe what fans and sportswriters have been complaining about for years, about the slow pace of play and lack of action.

It makes me sad for the future of the game. My kids generation is not into baseball at all. MLB is really not getting it. Today’s young adults would rather watch E-Sports. Speed the game back up. Do everything possible to get back to the speed of the game in the 70s and before.

2000 playoff teams. NFL type tiebreaker rules so no game 163s. The shift banned next year?

RIP.

Enjoy your 20 pct. drop in attendance as you continue to alienate your core base.

When does this agreement end?

People have been predicting the end of baseball for decades now.

End? No…itll be around forever. Clownball or no. Im just saying whats going to happen. And TPTB won’t acknowledge its because they keep fucking around with a game built on nostalgia. They’ll just say ‘because its not the NFL. We cant get the youth to watch. They hate us because of the work stoppage’

Attendance will likely not drop 20% if they don’t implement your pet rules.

Aside from the pitch clock what exactly do you recommend they do? They’ve already mandated relief pitchers have to face 3 batters (which a lot of people got mad about).

I guess they could massively increase the strike zone as pitchers duels are very very quick… but lack of offense does tend to screw viewership.

Ideally the banning of the shift and DHs in both leagues should increase the action, but isn’t going to shorten the games any.

all the sports writers have been saying the same thing … the contract was al about the money and nothing else
