Gotta have someone on the team who can hit home runs besides Juan Soto. And we’ve got to show Soto that we’re not going to tank, or he’ll walk when he becomes a free agent.
Yanks re-sign Rizzo, so looks like they’re out of the Freeman race. Except for starting pitching, the team is solid, particularly infield defense.
Time to move Voit for hopefully more than a bag of balls.
I think for pitching, they just need a warm body for depth.

I’m hoping Clark Schmidt pans out and fills the void. I’ve only see him throw a couple times but thought he looked great.
I see zero evidence the Reds can “sustain” success. I guess you can, like the Rays, but what evidence is there Krall is capable of it?
This may even test Joey Votto’s loyalty.
Blue Jays get Matt Chapman from the A’s for a package of prospects, albeit none of Toronto’s best prospects.
Chapman is a really good player but he hit .210 last year. Still, even hitting .210 he’s helpful and hitting .250 he’s an All Star. Toronto apparently intends to win immediately.
Phillies sign Kyle Schwarber, who tore it up last year for the Nats before we traded him to the Red Sox. Now, he’s with a division rival.
Kris Bryant to Colorado. 7 years/$182 million.
Also, the Cubs sign Seiya Suzuki to a 5/$85 deal.
But to save money they traded away Nolan Arenado. Ooookay.
Yeah, there have been a few analysts who are baffled by this move.
For all the talk about competitiveness, 2022 is shaping up to be a very rich and poor year. Oakland and Cincinnati have basically surrendered, and none of 2021’s bad teams look improved save Texas, who invested about ten trillion dollars in their new middle infield.
The major remaining piece is Carlos Correa, who is linked to go back to the Astros or go to the Yankees. Correa is a fucking AWESOME player, somehow very underrated, and would either make the Yankees way better or keep the Astros good. I don’t grasp why the Yankees haven’t just handed him a big bag of money.
Because he is a SS. We just filled that need while waiting for 2 of the top prospects in baseball to mature.
Also, The Boss is deceased and Hal doesn’t run the team the same way.
Ugh. It looks like the Ghost Runner Rule isn’t really dead after all. Supposedly, it’s quite popular with the players. They also like when mommy takes them out for hot dogs and sody pop after the game.
There has to be a better way, right? There shouldn’t be a runner on second because no-one earned their way on base. That’s how baseball has worked for over a century. What other ways might there be to inhibit long, extra-inning games without fundamentally changing the game?
- Allow ties except in playoff games. If they game is tied at the end of 12 innings, it goes in the record books that way.
- 4 fouls = 1 strike, period.
- No pitching changes after Inning #10.
I’m intrigued by the foul ball idea. It’s another fundamental change, but one that might really improve the game.
Kind of like rapid chess, rapid baseball after 9 innings. If the next batter isn’t in the box 10 seconds after the completion of the previous play, that’s a strike. Take the pitch clock from 14 seconds to 10 seconds, with another second taken away every inning. Hit a home run, and you have 23 seconds to cross home or you’re out.
Well now that we’ve banned amphetamines (which may have been far more consequential than banning steroids), players aren’t too keen on playing even more innings. Ties could work, but moving to 154 games may be a better idea.
Give 'em back their greenies. Was it really such a big problem?
If illegal performance enhancing drugs aren’t a problem, shouldn’t we give the players back their steroids?
I’d be fine with allowing ties, weren’t there some ties back in the train travel and no lights era? I love baseball, but once we’ve hit 12 innings, I’m ready for the exit or to grab the remote and zonk. If the game happens to be important for the playoffs, then it can be completed.
