I’ve never gotten the hatred, either. He’s fine.

Me too. It was pretty fun, and everything was pretty laid back and casual since there was very little on the line. To me it was everything an All-Star game should be; the best players hanging out, appreciating the spotlight, and no real pressure.

I also really liked hearing players talk to each other when they were on the mic. I always see them being chatty on the field and always wonder what they’re saying.

If you want an announcer who will talk about his golf game in the third inning of a World Series game, you need look no further.

It’s fun if you don’t take it seriously. I liked the Ump cam, although I wish he had held his head a little steadier.

Toronto mentioned as a possible All Star Game host for 2027, I assume Covid vaccines won’t be an issue by then. I’d also bet that if there’s any movement towards a new stadium for the A’s or Rays that they’d be on the All Star Game list as well.

Not sure what was the more hilarious baseball news yesterday, that Scott Boras claims “a lot of teams” think Joey Gallo would thrive with them, or Pablo Sandoval (now playing in the Mexican League) saying he regrets signing with the Red Sox.

I thought I would switch allegiances midstream from my hometown Nats to my adopted hometown Red Sox. So far, it isn’t working out. Sox down 14-0 in the fourth, including giving up an inside-the-park grand slam homer on a misjudged fly ball to center.

That was the most misjudged fly ball I’ve ever seen. The poor center fielder wasn’t even in the same area code.

As for my Mets, we saw something relatively rare tonight - Max Scherzer got lit up. Whole team seemed down.

It ended 28-5, setting records for both runs scored by the Blue Jays and runs allowed by the Red Sox.

Toronto’s previous record for runs scored in a game was 24.

They needed just five innings to break that record tonight.

I was hoping they’d break the record, which is 30, but late in the game they put in Bradley Zimmer, the Offense Stopper. Everyone else was hitting, but not Big Z, who struck out and then flied out (against a position player.) The Sultan of Swish is now batting .107 and has struck out in 40 percent of his plate appearances.

Every few years the Blue Jays pick up a lefthanded hitting outfielder who can run like the wind but strikes out a lot, believing they can fix him. They gave Socrates Brito an extra chance in 2019, but the resplendence of his name was not mirrored by his hitting, as he went 3-for-39 with 17 strikeouts. Then they got Derek Fisher (not the basketball player) who hit .177, allowed a fly ball to bounce off his face, and thereafter was visibly terrified of fly balls. Now they have Zimmer. Zimmer, somehow, did manage to hit above the Mendoza line with Cleveland, and I don’t know how. He has one of the worst swings I have ever seen exhibited by a major league position player.

Toronto’s Raimel Tapia hit a fly ball to the outfield last night, and Boston’s Jarren Duran lost it in the lights and it landed against the wall. Duran decided to lollygag his way towards the ball, and while he was fucking around and one of his teammates had to go get it, Tapia ended up with an inside-the-park grand slam.

That mistake will be on Duran’s Wikipedia page forever.

I think he assumed it had gone over the wall and bounced back in and was already a HR. But the guy is supposed to be a professional and shouldn’t be making those kinds of assumptions.

The other interesting play was the infield pop-up that fell between the catcher, pitcher and 3rd baseman. There were two out, two runners on and one one run already in that inning. It was called a hit and was the first of 10 consecutive hits that resulted in an 11 run inning, also tying a Jays record. That pushed the score from 14-3 to 25-3. They eventually scored 3 more runs to make it to 4 TDs.
