MLB: June 2016

As his stint on the DL coincides with the All-Star Break, it’s well timed. This could be limited to a loss of 2-3 starts.

Kershaw started on the 26th so his time on the DL commences June 27. Under normal circumstances have been expected to start again on July 2 and then July 7. The All-Star break starts July 11, so the rotation is then interrupted until July 15, at which time he’ll have been resting for 19 days and will be eligible to be activated. So the impact might be negligible - two starts, against bad teams the Dodgers can beat anyway.

This assumes that he is only on the DL for 15 days, and I’m not willing to make that assumption just yet. As you say, if it all works out in the most ideal way, it won’t cost the Dodgers a ton. But that’s a huge “if” right now.

Yeah, after the last 2 games against the A’s* I am taking nothing for granted.

Jun 28: Giants score 11 but the bullpen gives up 9 runs, A’s win 13-11.

Jun 29: Giants bullpen is sound, but everyone else on the team runs around with their hair on fire, trying to put it out with a hammer. A’s win 7-1.

Please, baseball gods: Jun 30: Bumgarner pitches a complete game shutout and knocks in 3 runs to help his own cause.

Honestly, I figured this was a minimum just based on the time of the year. They weren’t going to rush him back for a single start and then take time off for the break. We’re not in a close enough race that one win is worth him not being 100% when he comes back. On the other hand if he’s still out on the other side of the break it’s time to start looking to next year.

I’m listening to the game right now. According to Monday/Kennedy, Dave Roberts initially said that Kershaw would be back right after the break, and then backtracked from that statement. Take from that what you will.

Keep the faith, brother. Kershaw heals like Wolverine, and the Giants have their own problems right now.

In the “You gotta play every game” file: Dodgers/Brewers went 6-5, 0-7, 8-1 for the Dodgers. Last night we got all of 2 hits. Today we got 12.

So just hunker down, work the rosary beads, sacrifice a chicken or three and Clayton will be back before you know it.

Another great night for Jeurys “Adventures In Closing” Familia. With the Mets holding a one-run lead in the top of the ninth against the Cubs, he put runners on second and third with nobody out, then struck out the next two batters and got a popup to end it.

‘‘I think our last three at-bats were a little bit too anxious,’’ said Kris Bryant, who fanned for the first out in the ninth. ‘‘But he’s supposed to do that. That’s why he’s the closer on their team.’’

Actually, I don’t think he’s supposed to give Mets fans a heart attack every other outing, but that’s what they typically get with Familia.

July thread here.
