MLB March-April 2026

Detroit outfielder Parker Meadows sustained a broken arm, a concussion, and needed 5 stitches inside his mouth after a head-to-head collision with teammate Riley Greene Thursday against the Twins.

Dodgers are the first team to 10 wins, powered by Max Muncy setting all sorts of records on Shohei Ohtani bobblehead night, capping it with a walk-off in the bottom of the 9th.

In tonight’s Cardinals-Red Sox game, Jose Fermin, the Cardinal batter, was apparently hit by Boston pitcher Greg Weissert. The Red Sox appealed the call, and the review showed there was no contact. The Cardinals then appealed the appeal, claiming catcher interference, and the review showed the catcher got his mitt in front of the bat, impeding the hitter. Fermin was awarded first base, but eventually ended up as the first half of a double play.

Essentially half the Blue Jays roster is hurt now.

The statistic that most correlates to team success is days spent on the IL. No team is deep enough to sustain injuries to four starting pitchers and four starting position players.

Related to that, Eloy Jimenez will be playing for the Blue Jays today. I had forgotten he existed and that Toronto signed him.

Jimenez of course hit 31 homers as a rookie in 2019, the most homer-happy year in MLB history.

Do you have a cite for this statement?

Former MLB infielder and manager Phil Garner has died at 76.

I did, and now I cannot find it. :frowning: So it’s presently an unsupported assertion.

And…both New York teams have lost five games in a row. Seems like offense in April has been hard to come by.

You can take some solace in the fact that the Mariners lost five in a row and had the worst batting average in the A.L. They have now won three in a row, and scored over 20 runs in those three games. But, to be fair, most of the credit belongs to the Astros pitching.

A stat that I was unaware of until yesterday’s Pittsburgh/Chicago Cubs game:

Going into yesterday’s game, there were two teams who hadn’t won a “come from behind” victory this season. After the Cubs went down 5-0 in the 2nd inning yesterday, and rallied to win 7-6 in a walk-off, there’s one.

Boston hasn’t won a “come from behind” game yet this season.

You mean there’s a glimmer of hope for the Royals?

They are near the bottom in both BA and runs scored, and just split with the White Sox, who are at the bottom in both categories. Their #3 and #4 hitters are both batting a robust .153.

Only their starting pitching is keeping them within shouting distance of .500, at 7-9.

And Scherzer looked awful again. Thought he was done a few years ago.

I thought he was done last year and then he pitched fairly well in the playoffs.

He was a depth re-signing and is pitching because almost everyone else is hurt. Just out NOW from the starting rotation are Trey Yesavage, Jose Berrios, Cody Ponce, and Shane Bieber. Toronto;s IL has a better starting rotation than some teams.

Well, to help the injury-plagued Jays, they’ve acquired Lenyn Sosa from the White Sox for minor league outfielder Jordan Rich and a PTBNL or cash considerations.

Guess the Pirates didn’t like losing the nail biter to the Cubs as they’re demolishing the Nats. 15-1

Brewers DH Christian Yelich left yesterday’s loss to the Nats with tightness in his left hamstring; manager Pat Murphy said, in a postgame press conference, “We’re most likely going to get some bad news.”

The good news, if there is any, for Yelich, is that it’s not his back, which he’d struggled with for several years, and on which he had surgery in 2024.

With Yelich out for an undetermined time, and with Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn both on the IL as they recover from hand/finger fractures, Milwaukee’s hitting takes another blow.

I haven’t been able to catch the Yankees lately, but why is Grichuk playing more than Grisham? Certainly Grisham hasn’t had a great start to the season but how many games does Grichuk get to extend his 0 for streak?

Diagnosis: second-degree adductor strain, out for at least a month. :frowning:

Orioles manager Craig Albernaz has seven fractures in his cheek and a broken jaw after being struck by a line drive during Monday night’s game.

He won’t need surgery and will be in the dugout tonight.

Which I have to give him credit for. If I go to the bank and the store in the same day, I need a nap.
