As long as the Dodgers weren’t tearing LA RULEZ! AZ IS TEH SUXXOR! in the infield grass, the request is unreasonable. I’ve never heard of a request like that before - has anyone else? I’m not sure modifying the word ‘request’ with ‘polite’ makes it so. It’s pretty damned self-important. How did the Dodgers get to the pool? ---

I’m predicting a massive upset when washington sneaks into the playoffs over pitt or cinci. The two face each other for 6 games in the next week and could be interesting. ---

The problem is that each time one of them loses, the other wins, so the elimination number goes down. I want DC to sneak in, but it’s just not going to happen. ---

Gotta love my Pirates. 20 years of negativity washed away this year, but when they have a chance to take control of the division and their destiny, they roll over like a tired dog. AJ Burnet, sticking to his form, pitches 5 strong innings, and then comes apart in the 6th. The Pirates offense disappears like a frightened turtle for here games, and the one lead they had was blown by their closer, Mark Melancon, who hadn’t blown a save all year until they played the New York Padres. This is how I know I love the Pirates. This team can still rip my hear out even after 20’years of losing, getting over the hump, and getting close to 90 wins should be enough… But I STILL CARE! ---

I think both teams could have handled it a bit better, but yeah, it’d be nice to see more sportsmanship generally (while acknowledging that these two teams had some bad blood between them this year already). There was a shot shortly after the game showing Gibson standing in the dugout, staring out at the Dodgers on the field and muttering to himself. He did not look to be in a congratulatory mood at all. ---

No, I’d have just let the Dodgers alone to have their celebration in the middle of the field and played my standard game-losing music and scoreboard announcements ("Drive safely! We’ll see you back here for our next home game against X on \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_, 2013, etc.) The celebration would’ve lasted 5 or 10 minutes and then everyone would’ve forgotten about it. There was no need at all for the D-Backs to ban the celebration from the field. That just makes them look petty. ---

Gibby never liked losing _at all_. Can’t really say the Dodgers broke an unwritten rule when no-one else in baseball **has** a pool. As for being classless, call me back when you’ve quit throwing at other player’s heads. ---

Yeah, I wasn’t watching, and using the pool strikes me as inappropriate, but not being able to use the field is also inappropriate. ---

As much as I keep saying the Nats are out, the Bucs are my favorite team right now because they could - theoretically - hand the Reds a whole bunch of losses. ---

Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia needs just 24 more plate appearances to quality for the batting title. His on base percentage - not his batting average, his ON BASE PERCENTAGE - is .230. I wonder if anyone in the live ball era has ever had an OBP that bad before with enough plate appearances to quality for the batting title? EDIT: A few have. The lowest qualifying OBPs since 1945, anyway: Hal Lanier, Giants, .222 (1968) Andres Thomas, Braves, .228 (1989) J.P. Arencibia, Blue Jays, .230 (2013) \* - Season not completed Hal Lanier, Giants, .241 (1967) Alfredo Griffin, Blue Jays, .241 (1981) \* - strike shortened Ouch. ---

Homer was at only 91 pitches in the sixth inning, he was pitching pretty well, and he gave up a sac fly to score McCutcheon to make it 3-2 at that point. There were then two out and a runner on second and he would have faced a lefty…big deal. So out trots Zach Duke whom promptly gives up a base hit to score the runner on second.
