# Mmm mm MMMM mm mm!

There’s a rhythmic way that this expression of enjoyment (usually of food) that I’ve heard for a long time, and I do it too in imitation.
_Mmm mm MMMM mm mm!_
It sounds to me like it may be based on a tune, or perhaps a spoken phrase. Maybe from a jingle or radio ad? But it’s 'mmmm’ed instead of spoken or sung.
Or maybe it has no obvious origin.
Anybody know?

Oliver Hardy used to use that same cadence, but instead of satisfaction, it denoted exasperation, usually with Stan Laurel. I think it prabably became associated with food because of the similarity to the mmm-mmm yummy sound.

I know that Quinzo’s uses it, or at least used it for some time. Don’t know if it predates them, though.

Are you referring the an old cartoon dog who made this particular sound after his owner tossed him a treat?
Dog gets treat…does the mmm mmm MMMMM(floats into the air) mmmm mmmm(settles down to earth).
Anyone remember what the heck I am talking about?

I googled “muttley treat float” and came up with [this](http://www.tvacres.com/dogs_cartoons_snuffles.htm). Who knew?
And, BTW, neither this nor Campbell’s soup is the “mm mm MM mm mm” described in the OP – though I don’t know where _it_ comes from and will be watching this thread with interest.

That is the form I’m thinking of. It does seem like it has been around although it may be the cadence that’s familiar rather than the “words.”
There is the Andy Griffith form of MMMMMmmmmmmmMMMMMM! that one must hear to know, but that is clearly different from the OP.
