Modern day examples of failed appeasement

I am not very well informed on this subject and so please note that I’m mostly asking a question more so than expressing an opinion.

But wouldn’t the way that the US has dealt with North Korea re their nuclear prgram be considered appeasement to some degree?

How about South Korea’s off-and-on Sunshine Policy toward the North… Giving unconditional aid and abstaining from UN votes condemning the North’s human rights abuses in exchange for a de-escalation in tensions sure sounds like appeasement (and the South hardly even got that much; the North conducted a nuke test while the policy was in place). A different administration came in and in 2010 the policy was officially declared a failure, but the current president has been trying again.

Yeah North Korea has been a prime example of “give them what they want and they’ll take it and not give you what you want.”

Not to mention the Republican Party. This has been their entire plan for 20 years now.

In the past, the US and South Korea have given the north coal, oil, food aid, and other inducements to give up their reactor/end nuclear research, stop enrichment, stop production of plutonium. Not worked out so great. Both democratic and republican presidents have been in on this [del] non [/del] quid pro quo. The current administration however has been most vocal [thumb like] in praise of itself.

When Trump pulled troops out of Syria, didn’t Russia help defend them against Turkish forces? Would that be considered appeasement?
