You know what I love about _Modern Family_? Not only is it the funniest show on TV, but it tugs at the heart strings as well. The scene of the three kids napping on the couch with their mom, all in each others’ arms as Phil snaps a picture = priceless. ---

Clearly they were going for poignancy over humor this week. Not terrible, but not their best work. And Cam is totally the woman. ---

At least they didn’t go to the bedroom thing (which is how an alarming number of people seem to think the “woman” role is determined). “His poetry… not very good!” ---

(I can’t remember what episode he said that plywood quote, but Mitchell was complaining that he always got picked last for teams in gym class. I also loved Jay’s subplot regarding his memories of his own mother. Mother’s Day must really suck when your mom’s dead. ☹ ---

There was also the episode where Mitchell felt non-macho because when they heard what they thought was somebody in Lily’s nursery Cam was on his feet bat in hand in two seconds. Not that this is necessarily something a mother wouldn’t do instinctively. I love the show but this was not one of my favorite episodes. Still way better than most sitcoms. I think it was established in the episode where Mitchell built the princess castle that Cam was pretty handy with tools and fixing stuff.
