Truth be told, I hate of the moments. All of them, except for those involving Rebecca.

> Lots of people seem to know about the Internet or eBay. But none of them seem to know how to search sold auctions to see what their items ACTUALLY go for instead of seeing the prices other delusional people are setting their items at on eBay.

They might know about that. Where they seem to be lacking is in basic sense about how a business that buys items and resells them is going to work. You looked on eBay and saw that your gimcrack sold for $500? Great! If you want $500 for your geegaw, get your ass on eBay and sell it yourself. Rick ain’t buying your doodad because he thinks it’s nifty; he’s buying it to make a profit. You, in turn, are selling it at a discount so that you don’t have to go through the hassle of listing it on eBay or whatever. Rick will buy your play-pretty at a substantial markdown so that he can list it for $550 and move it for $490.

I understand starting with the retail price as a negotiating point, but a lot of people seem genuinely shocked that a pawn shop is not going to pay retail for an item its going to resell.

Corey’s handshake.
Whenever he shakes someone’s hand, it looks like a roundhouse punch coming in. Starts wayyyyy back like he’s about to throw a hard one. And the same line, no matter what. Ok, my man!
Typical “my daddy and grandfather own this business” attitude.
What a smug bastard.
Get a real job, asshole!

Probably going to be one of those Poverty to Riches to Poverty in 3 generations deals. First gen (old man) builds the fortune. Second Gen (Rick) inherits. Third Gen (Corey) pisses it away.

By and large I’m over the show. I’ll stop by as I’m channel surfing, but it doesn’t take much for me to move on to something else.

The straw for me, was that I tried of Rick spouting off for 45 seconds on some obscure bit of history on the latest item brought in as though he actually knew that info off the top of his head and hadn’t memorized the script an hour before.

I guess because of this an other issues, I can’t suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy it.

He should stop reading Wikipedia and just go full on Cliff Claven at these people.

_So, uh, little known fact: the rolling chair caster was actually invented by a, uh, Dutch turtle rancher. He, ah, had a bunch of these three-legged turtles and needed a way for them to get around. Turns out, when his kid sat on one of the turtles, they made great chairs. Yep…_

The straw for me was the episode in which Rick goes to London, and I’m nominating the entire show for “moments I hate.” Somehow there’s a “mixup” in who is giving Rick the tour of London, so he winds up with some half-wit who needs Rick to explain the history of London to him. Uh-huh. Because the production crew could set up flights, hotels and dozens of locations, but forgot to book the right guide? And Heaven forbid that Rick isn’t the expert on everything!

Not only was it a miserable episode in many ways, it just exposed how fake the entire show is.

I enjoy watching some of the items brought in and learning their history, but I can concur with the folks above. NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, who has the remotest idea of the value of a one-of-a-kind historical item is going to bring it into a pawnshop and accept 5 cents on the dollar for its value when they can take a run on E-bay or take it into a genuine antique dealer.

That’s a big ole eye-roll for me.

The fake ragging on Rick in the back of the store. At least it had better be fake. Rick is my favorite of the four regulars, the old man being second. Can always count on the old man to say something really dry.

Well, it _is_ Vegas so there’s a remote possibility that they can’t wait for eBay or some antique dealer.

I quit watching regularly almost a year ago. The Chumlee calls in sick episode was my final straw. Anything with Chumlee acting like a lazy, dumb ass ruins the show.

The emphasis on the craptastic acting over showing/discussing the items brought into the shop made me stop watching a year or so ago.

[I hear ya](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=621601&highlight=pawn).

My runner up: Whenever (like, once an episode) the Old Man gets exasperated and covers his face in his hand.

I quit watching around six months ago. Don’t miss it.

When it gets too invested in it’s, “story,” I don’t care about Chumlee’s first house or Rick’s bachelor party.

That episode was painful. Rick knows a lot, and I’d expect he knows a lot about London and its history. I’d further expect his British hosts to know this too. Yet, I was surprised to find that they had assigned a doofus to guide him around.

I’d rather have seen Rick climb on a guided tour bus. At least then, we would have had an interesting travelogue; rather than Rick telling Doofus facts about the UK that Doofus should know.

A funny aside: my teenage niece was staying at my mother’s house overnight and asked if they could watch Pawn Stars.

Mom was incensed – “Maybe your mother allows you to watch filth like Porn Stars, but it’s not happening in m house!!!”

My final straw was during that episode when Rick was trying to buy that guy’s priceless antique map.

Didn’t surprise me, all they did was find a British version of Chumlee.

That episode was painful all around.
