That’s kind of his point. Her video isn’t about being too busy for friends because she has all these videos to shoot, edit and post; it’s about being too busy for friends because “ZOMG, Parenthood!!11!!”

Hence the lie.

It wouldn’t occur to me to do this (since I would want to throat punch someone who came to my home and started doing chores), but it’s awesome if they like it.

That’s an excellent point.

I actually goggled at the screen when I read that.

I don’t have kids. I don’t want kids. You post a lot about not having and wanting kids. A lot. A LOT.

That’s the kind of thing that has excited me ever since I turned about 12. 😃

It’s not a lie. It’s a comedic take on the changes parenthood makes to your life. Presumably she had work and friends before she had kids. If she now only has time for work and kids, that’s because of the kids, not the work.

Yes dear, the video is not real life. You caught her!! No wonder this place is known for the smartest people on the internet.

> This is the same complaint that single people sometimes have about their friends who get married. All of a sudden the couple has no time for their single friends. I think it’s a stage of life/place in life thing. It’s sometimes hard to make the new situation fit with the old.

I wouldn’t expect friends who have married or had children to stay the same. It would be nice if they stayed the same, but I wouldn’t expect it.

That’s not to say I want to hear about how evolved they are or how blessed they feel or how sad they think my life is, for not knowing the pleasures they know. Just because your life has changed doesn’t give you a pass on relating to people like you’re halfway normal.

But I just don’t understand what the whole debate is. Shouldn’t one try to make friends with people you have a lot in common with? Seems to me if someone knows they aren’t on the mommy track, they’ll try to make friends with other people who are the same way. (Though I guess friendships just kind of happen sometimes.)

That was awesome, and exactly the kind of thing that’s going on in the video, in my opinion.

I find it interesting that you condemn parents who are focused on their kids in one breath and alternately condemn those who do not pay enough attention to them in another. Aside from never having kids, what would you have parents do?

> I actually think is has rather more to do with whether you think that this video is really her true feelings vs a an attempt at being funny. You think it is real, while I believe it is a parody with some truth embedded. There is no one side or other, just a difference in perception. Again, this is not an actual apology to her friends…it is a side business for her, trying to be funny about parenthood and getting a few views.

so, basically, i’m supposed to ignore the actual content of the video and assume she is the opposite of the way she claims to be.

Are you really this dense? I expect that you believe that you too can have abs like a god if you just eat this or that supplement. Jesus. She is marketing a slightly funny blog. This is not real life for her or her friends I feel like I am in a room of autistic, deliberately obtuse people who are looking for some outrage here.

The answer to your question is yes. Yes, she is not the person in the video that she is portraying. It is a parody. Somewhat grounded in the truth, but a parody.

I think the video was meant to be funny…that being said, I found it to be rather annoying. “Look at meeeeee, I reproduced! Twice! OMG sooooooo busy!!!” I wouldn’t be offended at all if such a person didn’t have time for me anymore. I also didn’t see what was so wrong with the toddler eating the cheese off the floor…that house was spotless.

That being said, I bet her car smells worse than the one in that Subaru commercial. 😉

you should make up your mind
is it grounded in truth

Not be such entitled martyrs for doing something people have been doing since the first single-celled organism split?

Oh for fuck’s sakes. She’s got a whole fucken’ SERIES of funny vids. Yes, it was contrived and scripted, yes it was a lighthearted attempt to portray the reality of living with kids and how they screw with your social life.

Some of you really need to get those sticks out of your arses. Taking offense to a flippant little video shows your misanthropic colours shining through.

Nah, that’s a totally concocted and artificial misanthropy. A true misanthrope–and I speak from first hand experience–hates humanity as a whole regardless of reproductive status.

believe it or not what bothers me is not saying i’m too busy to have friends because i have kids, fine, ok, believe that, but the truth of the matter is if she wasn’t making such elaborate videos she WOULD have time to have friends.
