I was just thinking… Monkey is just one of those words that makes anything you say funny, (like you’re about as useless as a monkey on a stick) it’s just a naturally funny word. ---

In the past couple of years I’ve begun using it as a substitute for an expletive. It’s actually diffused more than a few tense situations, because how can you not giggle when a grown man growls “Monkey!” ---

You’re talking about [inherently funny words](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inherently_funny_word), a concept which is waaaaay overused and undercomprehended. There _are_ inherently funny words, which vary based on the context they’re used in, but “monkey” and “cow” have been beaten like a dead horse. Intentional uses of those words as “inherently funny words” just make me roll my eyes. But that’s just me. ---

Well…to me, “monkey” has a slightly different connotation, since for some weird reason, my parents used it as a euphemism for the female genitalia. Imagine my confusion hearing the term “spanking the monkey” for an activity performed by males. It’s still a fun word, though. But if we’re going to go the primate route, I prefer “baboon.” Babooooon! ---
