I saw a couple of minutes of [this story](https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/08/us/montgomery-boat-dock-fight/index.html) on TV a couple of evenings ago, but then it seemed to disappear. I haven’t seen anything on here about it. Is it at all remarkable, or is it just another example of white racists feeling more empowered to express their fear and hatred with violence? Is it nuanced at all, or completely straightforward?

Apparently three white men are being charged with a Class A misdemeanor, third degree assault. The maximum penalty for that is one year in prison. They are the three men from the small private boat. I find myself pleased that they apparently aren’t going to get away with behaving like violent assholes.

I read [this interesting opinion piece](https://www.npr.org/2023/08/10/1193091939/montgomery-brawl-memes) by a Black commentator on NPR. It’s sort of a secondary reflection on the reactions to the brawl, especially on Black social media. I liked the image of the MLK Jr statue holding a folding chair.
