Cleese was in “Cycling Tour”, which was late in the 3rd season. Cleese left after the 3rd season and did not appear in the fourth season. He did contribute some of the material during the 4th season, though. The 4th season was, overall, not as good as the previous seasons, but there were some worthwhile moments. Douglas Adams of “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” fame has a cameo appearance in “Mr. Neutron”, for instance.
The Order in Which to Experience Monty Python’s Stuff And Why
[ol]
[li]Holy Grail[/li] - A True Classic, the “why” is the entire move
[li]And Now for Something Completely Different[/li] - Greatest Hits of the Flying Circus - How not to be seen; Self defence against fresh fruit; Some of T. Gilliam’s best cartoons
[li]Live at the Hollywod Bowel[/li] - Good stuff that’s exclusive to this show - Sit on my Face; The Drunken Philosopher’s Song; Four Yorkshiremen; The Travel Agent, with a great sub[/sub] beginning and the FULL ending
[li]Life of Brian[/li] - Like HG, there’s a great deal of classic stuff here.
[li]Every Flying Circus episode[/li] - the raison d’etre, since everything else came afterward.
[li]The Meaning of Life[/li] - Umm… Some really good songs in this one. Galactic Significance; the Accountancy Shanty
[li]Listen to the Monty Python albums[/li] - More stuff you won’t hear elsewhere - Henry Kissinger song; String/ Ad Agency; Spectator Novel Writing
[li]Books - All The Words, vols. 1 & 2 (scripts for every Flying Circus sketch) and the Monty Python Songbook (words to every song)[/li][/ol]
At this point you may now buy your own Dead Parrot and Killer Rabbit - you are a full-fledged Python Geek. Congratulations, and welcome home!
Chris Morris has done some great stuff, and he likes to stretch the envelope. Like the time he got fired for filling a radio studio with helium between his programme and the next poor bastard’s.
Some of his TV shows include The Day Today and Brass Eye, and by a strange coincidence these are both being rerun tonight for the first time in ages. TDT is a spoof of satellite TV news, so maybe you’d have to have seen some British satellite stuff to get the joke (or maybe all satellite TV is the same?). The edition of BE being shown tonight is the paedophile special - angry questions were asked in Parliament about it.
alright, I purchased Holy Grail on Friday and have watched it about 4 times already and have not stopped laughing. I had no idea what to expect. My wife got on me for buying a DVD that had not yet seen but I took the chance. I got nervous at the beginning with the fake intro because I wasn’t getting it.
I’m sure I just cracked the surface. It’s great with the subtitles on. Even though I work with a bunch of English guys it’s still hard to catch everything.
I’m going to follow Tygr’s list.
Think: “My lack of God! It’s Trotsky!”
That’s from Meaning of Life, of course. The best part is where the Crimson Permanent Assurance attacks the Very Big Corporation of America.
[sub]Righto. Can we 'ave your liver, then?[/sub]
