# Monty, WTF is your problem?

Look. I buy that the mechanics routinely test drive the vehicles. What I said, as I was quoted above, is that I don’t buy the mechanics “routinely test drive around town,” as in drive-thrus and for other personal business. Since the OP of the thread in question stipulated that the friend (does anyone else hear a small voice saying “FOAF?”) knew the mechanic quite well, one would tend to think she’d know about the drive-thru (for food!). Again, I ask: What’s the story going to be if some other fool rear-ends the vehicle in the drive-thru? And jsut for fun: What about the security tape from said drive-thru? And, I ask of the OP of this very thread, how does my expressed doubts make me guilty of pulling my pud in public?

Monty, others have posted right in this thread that not only did the mechanic take their car out for a test drive, the mechanic also did some diddling around on his own (pun may or may not be intended) in their car. Just because _you_ don’t buy that a mechanic would stop for donuts and a fresh cuppa cream (ew!) while on his test drive, doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. (Didn’t you ever see _Ferris Bueller’s Day Off_ - the parking garage incident?) And it certainly doesn’t mean the owner of the car is a liar just because the mechanic is a creep. Get a grip, Monty. You owe someone an apology…

It doesn’t Monty. What makes me suspicious is that you went on a full force attack on the crdibility of the _initial_ poster for no apparent reason. What did you find in the post that got you so riled up that you had to break down Angkin’s post, **line by line** to try to prove that she was lying? What is the benefit for you or anyone else? Nothing! All this leads me to believe that perhaps you had some ulterior motive for attacking someone and calling them a liar out of the blue. So when I said, “If you like to drive around jerking off, that’s your personal buisiness”, I was trying to make a guess at where all this anger sprang forth from.
Monty, do the right thing. Admit that you were wrong and apologize. Frankly, I’ve had enough, and arguing is neither my forte nor my pleasure. If you _can’t_ see the err of your ways, so be it. I see from some of the above posts that you are/were in the military. I spent seven years in the Army, and if there’s one thing that I learned, it was to have integrity. Right now, you have none. Respect others and possibly you can _earn_ the respect of others, Monty.

Well, just for what it’s worth, since everybody seems to be bashing on Monty, that story set off my BS detector too. I’m not necessarily saying that it’s untrue, I’m just saying I find it hard to believe. But before you all jump on me, I don’t go to MPSIMS much and so know nothing about the OP. Evaluating that post on its merits alone, somehow it sounds a bit fishy to me.
That being, said, I did a little quick checking around the UL sites and didn’t see anything comparable. Which is not evidence either for or against it.

If I recall correctly, Monty is in the Navy and works at the Naval Post Graduate School (or, maybe DLI, not sure). They must have skipped the part about integrity when he was in training.
As for me, I thought Monty wasn’t all that bad until he went off on me in the thread about “5 Generative Alphabets”. Ah, silly me, I should have known…maybe if I stayed in GD’s more, i’d have anticipated it. I wonder Monty, do you always go into a such tizzy with people in real life?

First: I’m on Terminal Leave from the Navy until the end of this month, upon which I transfer to the Fleet Reserve, aka “Retired.”
Second: The unit to which I was assigned is located on the grounds of the Naval Support Activity-Monterey Bay. locally known as NPS.
Third: I “went off” (and FTR, it wasn’t a rant) on you in said thread because you made stuff up. Perhaps you’re the one who missed the integrity along with Angkins for posting obviously false stuff. And, IIRC, you did figure out that I was right in that thread. Or maybe that wasn’t you posting under your User ID? I certainly hope that for your academic success you do a better job of research in the near future.

Demo & Angkins: Since my expressed doubts don’t make me guilty of what you’ve accused me, why don’t y’all apologize for that accusation? Along with your apologies to Dianne for the asinine comments about her sex life when she expressed the doubts.
Demo: Since you now admit that your unfounded accusations of me flashing in public have nothing to do with the OP in the other thread in question, perhaps you recognize that tends to show you have sufficient doubts of the veracity of said OP to not defend it but attack me instead.

Heh. I also had no problem with Monty until his completely OTT reaction (caused by his own misreading, I might add) to my posts in the [Citizenship Question](http://www.straightdope.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/005520.html) thread. Now I just wonder if he’s the sort of guy who can’t stand anything he says being challenged.

Take a step back and look at this thread. While others might be making asses of themsleves, you are definitely the champ, by a long shot. Hey, it’s your rep, do what you want. Keep in mind that I was PapaBear and Little Nemo was Mike King back in the day. I’m sure he was just as disappointed that you didn’t come back to correct your mistake as I was.
I think that thread is a perfect example of what many people find offensive about your posts. You are very quick to call people ignorant but refuse to ever acknowledge your own errors, or apologize when you are wrong. This isn’t a contest. It’s a mutual pursuit of knowledge.
I actually took a break from this board when YOU pointed out to me that by objecting to your pettiness the way I did, I was actually behaving just like you. You were right. So please take this as an observation and not an attack.
Tearing down other people is a pretty inefficient way to validate one’s own wisdom, IMO.

Well, as I said earlier, this story seems suspiciously urban-legendish to me. I seem to have heard it somewhere before. However, I haven’t been able to find any links or references to it as an urban legend. Nick and Diane and Felice and all-
If someone who has never been known to lie tells a story and you jump on her for lying thats wrong. The story is outlandish yes. But a UL??
She told us a story that happened to her, thats all. It was a funny story, it was in MPSIMS, and there was absolutely no reason to believe it was false. If anyone can point out ANYTHING to show that it is false, besides the outlandishness of the claim, I will be very surprised and apologize to Monty and Diane et al. But to accuse someone of lying cause their story is a good story?? Come on it makes no sense.
So naysayers, I ask you to point out one other time that angkins was shown to lie? Or once incidence of this being a UL? Otherwise I will chalk this up to being a sick fuck and a crazy incident!
God you people make me sick!
Oh and Monty…it was me that said Diane needed to get laid and if you read the thread I did apologize for saying that. Its strange though, no one asked me to apologize for saying you were an idiot!

No, I never accused her of lying because the story is good, I accused her of lying because it is almost identical to the urban legend, right down to the part about it being the mechanic.
