I agree, BUT… I’ve always thought this was a handy corollary to the “Don’t Be A Dick” rule. If you’re an asshole to people (which includes insulting them, but also refusing to provide cites and debate honestly) then people will be much less inclined to cut you any slack. Or feel much remorse when it turns out you didn’t lie about one point you made. ---
