The one photo that haunts me is the one taken on the stairwell. You see a line of people going down, and one lone fireman going up.

I can’t find a link to it, and I did hear that he got out safely, but dayum…how much courage does it take to go _into_ a burning building carrying 60 lbs of gear and not knowing what the hell is going on?

It also hurts to see the firefighters, after, just sitting there, stunned. They devoted their lives to helping people, and on that day, they couldn’t.

Of course, we were all stunned that day…

If it’s [this one](http://www.theglobeandmail.com/special/photoessay/images/attack_6.jpg), the firefighter is Mike Kehoe, and he did indeed escape the tower that day.
