In one of his columns, Cecil describes the coffee made from beans taken from the feces of a particular animal - the palm civet.

Well, I was exploring the University of Guelph’s webpage, and guess what their latest news item is? Apparently research at Guelph has shown that kopi luwak coffee is even more bacteria-free than regular coffee!

Here’s the link to the article:

Anyone wanna volunteer for the potential taste test? 😃

So, UOG tested Kopi Luwak (from malaysia) and compared it to regular ol’ coffee beans from Colombia, and found that they’re different – brilliant. I could have told them that Malaysian coffee and Columbian coffee are different without a GC _or_ a palm civet.

_shrug_ I didn’t design their research plan. I think the concern was fecal bacterial content, which,IMHO, _is_ a concern when you’re drinking something that passed through some cats ass. The synthetic aspect could be interesting - no name ™ kopi luwak coffee 🙂

If you want, you can order some from Urban Fare in Vancouver(possibly on web, I’m not sure).

It goes for $600 CAD/ 100 grams, or something ludicrous like that.

$75 for 1/4 pound bags, here, which is still ludicrous:

The graphic is amusing, anyway …
