From old fashioned boxersā€™ lingo: ā€“And I picks up a sleep inducer from the floor and hands it to him ā€“Heā€™s a good quick boy but he couldnā€™t knock a hole in a block of ice cream, not if he was to use a hammer (Both from a P.G. Wodehouse story; Wodehouse was an avid fan and had represented his school in boxing, himself. This story from 1914 is set in America.) From the same story: ā€œFade away!ā€ and ā€œIf you want to push on tā€™roo and join the giddy throng, go on in. I canā€™t be boddered.ā€ These are examples of early 20th century Manhattan patois. ---
