I agree with the no khakis, but the rest is like a early-90s timewarp. Striped shirts? Tuck a shirt into jeans? A shirt with a logo is glaring distraction? Sneakers are good to go with jeans? Sounds like advice on how to dress for a church retreat. Ooo, sexy: tucked in dark jeans and white sneakers. The babies just can’t keep their hands off ya. ---

That article is retarded in suggesting jeans on a first date with an unknown woman, but they are correct about khakis. You shouldn’t wear khakis unless you can carry the look, and unfortunately these days khakis are (to be honest) a somewhat tired look that screams “low level service worker”. If you’re gay or a rock star jeans are OK, but jeans on a first time hetero date is (IMO) a bit too risky if you’re seeking to make a good impression and don’t know what the ladies fashion preferences are. ---

Question for the ladies: do off white pants/slacks count as khaki? If yes, then even if they’re teamed with a nice solid colored shirt (usually blue to match my eyes)? Lastly, and also if the first answer was yes, what the hell else am I to wear? I don’t wear jeans on a first date, unless really, really informal and I also do. not. ever. wear long socks, EVER! Therefore, dark pants are out for me. The only socks I wear are the really low cut ones (in your choice of white or black). Wearing long sucks is just painful- nothing like getting hairs slowly and relentlessly yanked from your legs all day long. I don’t know how other guys can wear them damn things. ---

And as for dating attire, if a man showed up to take me out and his clothes were clean, relatively coordinated, and he was bathed and smelled clean, I probably wouldn’t sweat too much else. Unless he sported a T-shirt that said something rude. But, like I said, it’s not an issue, so _whew!_ ---

[/QUOTE] Okay…here’s how I see it. You probably know a little something about the person or you wouldn’t be going out with them. You’ve seen the person. You’ve talked with the person. Probably even if it’s a blind date. But I’ve always felt comfortable asking either “Where are we going?” or “What should I wear?”. I don’t think there’s all that much mystery to it. ---
