You have to sign a piece of paper saying you are a good Christian before you can work there. Do you think that religious organizations are required to hire atheists? They are not. Christianity can be a requirement for a job. Religious organizations are exempt from certain anti discrimination laws. It shouldn’t be too hard to google up an example. [/QUOTE] Uhhh… It’s a surprise to me (I can’t read the PDF on this computer). As a rather agnostic pagan, I worked the front desk of my boyfriend’s church, pretty much 'cause I needed the money. My religion never became an issue; in fact, I imagine they were pleased to have someone working Sunday morning. Whatever happened to “shopkeepers can refuse to employ people not of their own religion”? I take it you are backpedaling from your previous sweeping assertion about discrimination in American hiring. Thanks anyway for the belated acknowledgement that your claim applies only to certain religious activities. I suspect similar exemptions are in place in other nations which otherwise ban discrimination on the basis of religion. It’s pretty silly to point to this as a reason why Americans should shut up about religious idiocy and/or abuses when they crop up here or elsewhere. ---

I just feel very sad knowing that Muslims can’t have a pet dog. I personally am a cat owner, but I’ve had dogs in the past, and loved them, and my daughter has two. I never knew of this further restriction that Muslims live under, and for some reason it makes me sad. Very silly, I know, but still… . ---
