Any suggestions for good summer/beach reads?

I just read Jeffrey Small’s epic suspense novel, “The Breath of God” on my last trip to the beach (thrilling, page-turning read, btw).

Looking for other suggestions

I’m halfway through the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. Enjoying it quite a bit, and looking forward to the American movie of the first one, out in December. The protaganista is awesome, the reading good and relatively fast-paced, and the details of Swedish living interesting to me, as I know diddly; wish I had a couple days off on a beach to just rip through them. 🙂

> The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (original title in Swedish: Män som hatar kvinnor, lit. 'Men Who Hate Women') is a psychological thriller novel by Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson (1954–2004). It was published posthumously in 2005, translated into English in 2008, and became an international bestseller.

Thanks Taoist. I read the trilogy last summer–definitely gripping and fast-paced–Enjoy the second half!

I,too, enjoy learning about new places, traveling vicariously through books. “The Breath of God” took me to India and Bhutan–two places I’d love to journey to in the future!

Sounds like that will be the next one on my list then 🙂 I tend toward fantasy-based stuff, and humourous stuff, or mathematical stuff…trying to think of some that aren’t fantasy that might be worth a look.

Humourous, blasphemous, awesome = Lamb by Christopher Moore. I also recommend Coyote Blue by the same author. The last was my first read of him, and the first is my favorite.

> Coyote Blue is a novel by American writer Christopher Moore, published in 1994. It has been widely reviewed.
> The plot concerns a salesman in Santa Barbara, California, named Sam Hunter (a Crow Indian born Samson Hunts Alone) who, as a teenager, fled his home on the reservation when he was involved in the death of a law officer. The novel begins when the adult Sam has his life turned upside down by Coyote, the ancient Native American trickster-god.

River God, by Wilbur Smith, is a GREAT anthropological fiction centered around ancient Egypt. I really, really enjoy this book. It’s a good story and a great read and one of those books that makes you feel like you might have learned something when you’re done. [River God - Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_God)

Yeah, I’m about halfway through the second one, and going nuts about the way they don’t tell you what’s happening with Lizbet, just that everything is going on around her, grrr! Great move, especially as by then one’s quite invested in the character.
