Yes, but there’s documentation on PRI-1, PRI-2, and PRI-3.
In all due fairness, Interstates like the 805 are not going to “nowhere.” The 805 goes to many of the same places the 5 goes to. It just takes a different route. And the 163, if for no other reason, gets props for being one of the most beautiful freeways inside a large city (when it goes through Balboa Park). And I beleive the 163 is under different funding.
I still think my June 17 posting is funnier.
You don’t have to tell me about it–that freeway has taken me to class most of the time I’ve lived here. But I assume “nowhere” means “from one state to no other state”, given the context.
Absolutely! It’s awesome, and it’s right in the thick of things, too–not barely skirting over the city limits like the 15 north of 8, so extra props in that dept.
And the 5 has the ignominious duty of going through north and mid Orange County. Imagine signining up to be an Interstate that goes through orange groves, only to end up being the central artery of the arm pit of the state.
[FIENDISH LAUGH VOICE]"You thought you’d end up like the 110, didn’t you 5? Winding through a pretty little historic park, with quaint little onramps? Ha ha! Actually, you’re going to host…Tustin! Irvine! And Sante Fe Springs! [/FIENDISH LAUGH VOICE/]
Actually, that was a bit harsh, and I take it back. I had no intention of offending the Orange Co. dopers, and I’m sure they can point me to the better aspects of that County.
I apologize…and please, point on.
In this part of the country, the interstate known as “The Highway To Nowhere” is the Sheridan Expressway / I-895 in The Bronx.
At 1.12 long, there’ve been local community calls to do away with it & turn it into a park.
I wonder if that stub of the Embarcadero Freeway (in San Francisco) near Lower Market Street is still there–near the old southern Pacific station…
One of the freeways around there was torn down, wasn’t it? After the Loma-Prieta earthquake, I think.
