More month than money? (monthly expenses; budgeting; easy expenses tracking?)

A bit of a bump here.

It’s been 4 months since I started tracking monthly expenses with a Google Sheet expense tracker. It is simple, and it’s somewhat fun in a twisted way. But it has really helped in tracking my expenses. It had been so easy to just charge something, and lose track of what I’m buying and just pay off the CC bill each month. For me the expense tracker helps reign in any frivolous purchases. Fortunately we’re not big spenders and we haven’t had to worry too drastically about money. We make some, and we spend it. But I’d make some frivolous expenses along the way. And sometimes that’s an understatement.

Thankfully our savings and investments have done okay and we’re living a comfortable enough retirement. But the expense tracker really helps.

In Mar Apr and May I did really well and met my self-imposed monthly allowance. But in June I made 2 major expenses and that blew the month out of the water. I bought a Tesla for my wife and a Harley for myself. They are definitely nice purchases, but it made for a crazy month.

Yes with the Tesla (it’s a Model 3) there’s the ‘Elon thing’. We’re not a fan of him, to put it mildly, but the car is very good. Especially with the FSD feature, Full Self-Driving, it is a very safe car for my wife. While she easily passes the DMV vision test, still her visual acuity isn’t great and she loves using FSD, and she is much safer in that car than just about any other car available today.

And the Harley… it’s FUN!

Now it’s July, and time to get back to reality.

Here’s the Harley. It’s orange and black. Harley calls the color Citrus Heat. Whatever…

Nice bike, but that’s paprika, not citrus. Maybe the Harley designer needs FSD as well.

FSD on a motorcycle? What’s the point?

Installations completed: rear seat + speakers, LED lights.

No, the designer who thinks that color is anything close to ‘Citrus’ likely has visual impairment as well, thus his need for a FSD car.
