I tried explaining this to him myself and got nowhere. (Well, not exactly nowhere. He used the fact that I wasn’t all that het up about DDT in the first place and had never heard of Rachael Carson to assail my expert status on the '60’s - a self-professed status that exists only in his mind.) Perhaps coming from you he’ll see he was wrong - though I doubt I’ll ever hear about it if he does. At any rate, I thank you for overcoming your animus long enough to try to get through to him on my behalf. 😉 ---

It’s hardly just right wing loons who’ve made such criticisms unless you want to classify Nicholas Kristoff of _The New York Times_ to be a right-wing loon. He’s written extensively on how banning the use of DDT in certain third world countries was a huge mistakes and led to malaria outbreaks which killed many and how some countries, such as Vietnam were able to dramatically reduce malaria-related deaths through judicious use of DDT. I should note that he makes it clear he thinks it should still be banned in most First World countries and discusses how it’s a very complicated question which which has been twisted by propaganda on both sides. That said, this is a bit off-topic and should be dealt with in another thread IMHO. ---
