> Is your premise that other religions have not been guilty of atrocities? Or is your point that we see more of these things from Islamic countries than from Buddhist or Catholic countries in current events? Wasn’t the “punishment” was illegal in much the same way abortion doctors is illegal or corrective rape is illegal.

I don’t get how you can think that is my stance. My point is that in today’s world, Islam is the religion that seems to incite the most violence. By far.

> So you are sayign that not all muslims think its ok to rape children and then whip them to death but there is somethign about Islam that encourages or is permissive of this sort of behaviour. Something unique about islam?
>
> OK what is it about Islam that encourages this sort of behaviour?

It’s something about the Koran. We have a bunch of barbaric animals murdering and maiming innocent people for sport. And they common denominator is that they say they are doing it for Islam, while they shout Allah Akbar. I’m not attributing their action to Islam, THEY are. Clearly. I am not an expert on the Koran, and I really don’t care what aspect of it is what these barbarians respond to. The fact is that they—and not just a handful of guys—see that that book condones, or compels, them to act like animals.

> [@Damuri\_Ajashi](#):
>
> No, it doesn’t. Your OP and your title doesn’t distinguish between Islamic extremists and mulsims in general. You are attacking a religion wholesale rather than attacking extremism.

You’re making a mistake in logic. You’re assuming that the problem stated necessarily applies to all of Islam. That’s not correct. If I were to start an OP entitled, “More New York City Marvelousness”, and railed about how fucked up NYC politics are concerning the unions, that does NOT mean that I think all of NYC is a degenerate and corrupt place with no positive attributes.

> [@Damuri\_Ajashi](#):
>
> I could make a MUCH MUCH MUCH stronger argument pitting extremism than pitting Islam as a religion of raping children then whipping them to death or ANY of that other stuff youa re talking about. Extremist Christian, Jews, Environmentalists, Animal Rights Activists, etc. are all capable of doing horrible things.

Knock yourself out. I might join you. But I chose to focus on Islam, because I see that it is not a rare occurrence when some assholes use it as an excuse to inflict some unimaginable barbarism on society.

> And in your opinion, what is the difference between third world radical Islam and third world radical Christianity?

1. The Koran. While a great deal of the barbarism from both sides can be attributed to ignorance, one side commits the atrocities in the name of their religion, often while screaming Allah Akbar.

2. Scope. Much of the Christian violence in the third world is restricted to the third world. The Islam violence flowers there but has spread to the West. I’m forced to deal with it more than the Christian violence.

I also don’t think that the number of severity of barbaric acts is even near similar. Ignorant radical Muslims seem to kick the ass of ignorant radical Christians in that regard.

I was thinking that fell outside my timeframe. But I guess it was still around in the fifties, so I’ll shorten my timeline to the past 50 years instead of the past 60.

Maybe. Maybe not. But, please, do not try to imply that the MAIN reason was anything other than the act itself. Please. It’s just ridiculous.

I agreed already with the Vietnam War. But the assassinations don’t come close. After a short time of mourning all was well with the world. MLK’s assassination might have had a larger impact in that it probably _helped_ the very cause he was fighting for.

Hrmm. I remember being a lot more concerned about the cold war than the “war on terror”

People were building fallout shelters.

On the bright side, people seemed to be more interested in science and technology than financial engineering and law.

Miraculous book, this Koran. Its followers adhere to it to an amazing degree, according to you. Christians are instructed by their Gospels to eschew wealth and worldly goods. And yet Christians are, by and large, quite prosperous. Many Jews are quite secular in their habits and diet, yet are enjoined by Torah otherwise.

But the Muslims are the exception, they follow their Koran with excruciating exactitude (according to you).

Well, why? What remarkable power resides in that book that doesn’t reside in the Torah or the Gospels? God likes them better? God made the Koran special, gave it some extra cosmic oooomf? Or, alternatively, are you full of beans?

What you’re talking about was really a fifties phenomenon, though it made it into the early and mid sixties. People weren’t really clamoring to build fallout shelters, but we did have drills in which we were told to get under our desks, which then changed to going into the basement. I pretty much missed the fifties. Another difference is that that attack from the Soviets was a fear never realized. Unlike attacks from Islam.

Maybe its followers are more sheeplike. You’ll have to ask them what it is about that book. The fact is, which you seem to agree with, that Muslims follow it more literally. And when a book is filled with such barbarism, that’s a problem. Unless you don’t think that people acting on the barbarism that may be found in any religious book is a problem. Me? I do.

Are you sucking on your hookah again? Do a Google search and tell me which seems more prevalent to you. And you know that list of cites of barbarism by Muslims I posted recently? I asked people to show me similar atrocities by other religions—Jews, Mormons, Quakers, Buddhists, etc.—and funny thing, no one ponied up. Here’s your chance, big guy. Do your thing.

Oh wait, your thing is to post 99.9% unfunny drivel. Never mind.

Today. TODAY!

I’ve acknowledged numerous times that there have been plenty of past atrocities by other religions. I will say, though, that it is wrong to attribute the Holocaust to a religion. It was Hitler and Nazism.

What the hell are you talking about? Do you know what the term means? tomndebb knows full well that his psot satidfied the question by that other poster because it was worded poorly. Notice how he did not respond to my response. No one cares what religion anyone is if they are mentally unstable or if they perpetrate an atrocity for some reason _other_ than their religion. We’ve been talking about atrocities and barbarism committed IN THE NAME OF ONE’S RELIGION.

So, if you have any such evidence that Joseph Stack flew the plane into the IRS building for religious reasons, cough it up. If not, I hope you see that your “No True Scotsman” fallacy flag was thrown is flagrant error.
