As God is my witness, I formally, and unconditionally, condemn all religions that encourage witch burning. I know I’m going to be the subject of all kinds of criticisms around here for taking that stand, but that’s the way I feel, and I don’t care what anyone thinks about me because of it!! ---

Thing is, this isn’t even considered extremism , this is run of the mill plain old vanilla flavoured Islamic repression. Why is Islam so frightened about the sexuality of humans? Why is it especially worried about the freedom of women? Islam is a backward religion, that produces a poisoned tree from which the evils of extremism are the natural fruit. It also has to be said, that other religions are often just as dumb, but these days they are nothing like as brutal on such a regular and mundane level of interferance into the personal lives and freedoms that all civilised nations expect their citizens should have. Female genital mutilation - it may not be in the good book, but again it shows the sickness of Islam, because there are many muslim advocates of this barbaric practice, which is solely about the ownership through marriage of one human being by another, and it is all centerd around Islam, the interpreted word, or practice, the effects and consequencies are real enough. Advocating the death of apostates, primitive savagery and nothing more, this is saying that God is not big enough to look after his own, and man must intervene by murdering those who have the temerity to use their own minds and make their own decisions - Islam is sick. Defending the sickness of Islam as practiced today by mentioning the burning of witches by another bunch of lunatics is no defence at all, how on earth can the behviour of other extremists be tortuously used to justify the excesses of another sick group of human abusers? The final condemnation of Islam has to be the absolute intolerance of its advocates to those who dare to make any form of criticism, upon this is justified murder as a holy act, Islam as practised today is intolerant of the rights and values of others, its no good saying that Muslims in westrenised nations are not like that, the reality is, that we see behaviour such as ‘honour’ killing, howls of indignation when some so-called religious tenet is crossed, I can say what I think about Jesus or God, no-one is likely to put me in fear of my life, yet make any comparable coment about Islam and watch the fall out - this shows the sheer intolerant and childish attitude of a significant portion of the adherants of this tarchaic tribal set of values and has to be seriously re-evaluated before it can become part of the real world, one with humanity and compassion. You often hear advocates of Islam mention the inherant humanity in their belief system, perhaps there is some, but its the compassion of the humane abattoir. ---

I waded in to hurl my scorn, but after reading through this train wreck I can’t make up my mind in which way to sling… On one hand you have the insane lunatics that have corrupted Islam On another, you have the predictable SDMB PC crowd who stand guard against all attacks on Islam and will to their best to deflect or minimize atrocities by using the same tired arguments over and over And on the other, you have the predictable SDMB “I hate all things religion” crowd. It’s a veritable trifecta of targets… ---

What is being objected to is that OPs constant harping about Islam as if there were people here who defend the backward practices like the one this thread is about. I have to agree, though, that the constant comparison to Christianity by some gets tedious. Especially since these guys are often the ones who scream the loudest when anyone compares Republican stupidity to Democratic stupidity in threads targeted at the former. ---

I just wanted to say that you are making great points, **casdave** , and I for one appreciate you trying to discuss this in a reasonable manner, instead of the ignorant blatherings of the OP. I agree with pretty much everything you’ve posted, and it would be nice if we could have a reasonable discussion about this on here. I’m not sure it can be managed though; it always seems to begin with moronic assholes flinging poo, and then the more liberal Dopers compensate in the other direction, lest they seem to be siding with the fuckhead.
