Can anyone picture this show doing segments on earnest people with wacky hobbies, as is common on _The Daily Show_? Will there be anything comparable to Samantha Bee getting back to her “roots” in Columbus? If the new show limits itself only to mocking left-wing politics, how’s it going to fill 30 minutes a day? ---

The host (can’t remember his name) acts like he’s had about 6 Red Bulls before he goes on air. There was a very hot chick on the show with a short-short skirt (you probably don’t care too much about that), and she (as should be expected) seemed to be the brains of the bunch. I got a few chuckles, but it was mostly lame. Then again, I think most of The Daily Show is pretty lame, too. ---

Is it just me or is _The Half Hour News Hour_ a really lame name? _The Thirty Minute News Hour_ is even a little funnier, though _30 Minutes_ would be better still. Their logo could be ticking clock ala \*60 Minutes \* but perhaps ticking backwards (get it- the time’s moving left- yuk yuk). Better yet would **The Conservative Hour** (catch phrase “So conservative an hour is only 30 minutes”). _Half Hour News Hour_ sounds like something a prosaic bitter executive (I’m picturing J.K. Simmons from _Spiderman_) came up with and a battery of yes men laughed at it. “It’s gonna be big! We need a name… R&D nerds! See if Red Skelton’s available to host it! Marketing! Do a poll and see how black-face comedy duos test with Middle America! Skelton’s dead? Great! That means we can use that Clem Skadiddlehopper or whatever without having to pay him some ridiculous $1000 per episode. Check on… hold on… Miller’s on Line 4? Tell him to go straight to hello Dennis! No, we’re scrapping the idea for the show… sorry, wrong report, we’ve killed the show… nope, there’s not gonna be one at all sorry you take care… Hey! See if the studio bought that monkey for Miller or just rented it! If we own it get his little hairy ass in here and put it in a suit… we’ll call it Barack Obanana- what do you mean racist? He’s half white and monkeys are African! WHAT?! Black face is illegal? Shit, there goes my idea for POINT MO-FO COUNTERPOINT! Well, put out a press release that Half Hour News Hour will proudly have 'No black face comedy teams… ooh, not like Daily Show’s planning to have! Start that rumor… and find out if Ann Coulter and Newt Gingrich can sing! Oh fuck… if Miller tries to get into my office again I want somebody to kick him in the balls and swear pictures of Foley’s nekkid interns fell out of his pocket!” ---

Of course what I particularly love is this show coming from a network that not only sued Franken for [parody](http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/08/22/fox.franken/) but even [tried to sue THEMSELVES](http://washingtontimes.com/entertainment/20031029-091743-7849r.htm) over it once. ---

Can anyone find links on predominantly conservative message boards talking about The Daily Show around the beginning of its airing? ('96, I believe… Though I don’t recall ever seeing it until the '00 election… Was it really popular before that?) Was it predicted to fail immedietly? If so, was their reasoning mirrored in this thread? ---

[/QUOTE] It was very popular when [Craig Kilborn was the host](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Daily_Show#With_Craig_Kilborn_.281996.E2.80.931998.29), though not as high profile. It never positioned itself as a liberal comedy show flogging the right. It really was just a fake news show. ---

I could only get thru half of it. It’s too noisy and disjointed-- I think it’s supposed to appeal to folks in their 20s. And it isn’t all that political. My guess (and I skimmed thru a lot of it) is that it’s about 20 -30% politics and then a lot of pop culture stuff like making fun of Anna Nichole Smith, OTC Viagra in the UK, and stuff like that. ---

Forgot to add… I think it’s meant to compete more with Letterman and Leno, and for a much younger audience. For the record, I hate those late night shows and don’t see how anyone except insomniacs can watch them. ---

Actually **John Mace** , it seems more like a rip-off of a political comedy/satire in Canada that’s called “This hour has 22 minutes”, which is a play on an older show that was called “This hour has 7 days”, a well respected current affairs show from the 60’s. You KNOW that they got Canadians hired for amusing press releases. But seriously, that is one pathetic promo. It’s clear that this show is just meant to be a right-wing sounding board and not an actual competitor to the Daily Show. It’s best described as a “Right Wing _Answer_ to the Daily Show”. It is not going to try to emulate it at all, just blather a response to lefty,slacker, pot smoking opinions as related by Jon Stewart.
