More on the Right Wing Daily show (commercial, specifically)

You do realise, do you not, that you replied directly to me? Look, here:

I find it hard to interpret it in any other manner than an accusation of partisanship. You are saying, are you not, that I am so blinded by partisanship that I can’t see the hand-wringing about the poor gay penguins?

Seriously: where is this hand-wringing? Is it as obvious to you as those nasty hand-stabbing atheists you see round every corner? Point it the fuck out, for fuck’s sake.

To be fair, I’m pretty sure Marion Barry was recently arrested again.

Right-wingers and edgy comedy go together like left-wingers and talk radio. This’ll die faster than Air America. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think Obama is a ripe target, he’s essentially been crowned king by the media, so poking some holes in that is a good start. And the coke abuse is a good opening. So far, so good.

However, that’s where the good ends- that segment was the definition of “low-hanging fruit” and was just kind of tone-deaf throughout.

Example:

“News that Obama did cocaine has reduced his support among democrats to a new low of 99.9%”.

I get where they’re going- there is the beginning of a joke here- however 99.9% is not funny. I can’t explain why, it just isn’t. “72%” would be funnier.

Then maybe a tag, like: “however, the news has increased Obama’s support among George W. Bush.”

Thank you, I’ll be here all the week.

He can’t see it past the monumental self-delusion of importance that surrounds him. Only Lib is free of the partisan taint, only he is endowed by God with the clear-eyed wisdom to tell everyone else The Truth, The Whole Truth, and nothing but The Truth.

And now he’ll be roaring in to accuse me of stalking him and leading the Cabal of Get-Lib Enemies who infest this board with no greater purpose than to fling feces upon his noble brow.

It’s hard work, being a martyr.

In fact, The Daily Show has been riffing on Obama’s seeming infallibility for weeks.

They can’t really use the tag, though, because they’re conservatives on Fox News, who will tolerate criticism of the President, but not that kind of character assassination. I do agree there’s a funny joke in there, somewhere. Maybe if they put a little peanut butter out as bait, they could catch it.

Air America isn’t dead, is it? I used to listen to it on XM a while back but I decided all in all XM wasn’t worth the cost at the time… I may sign up for it again sometime.

But they just went bankrupt, right? And weren’t they sold? Still operating though, right?

Okay, so now we’re getting somewhere! Right wing humor! Pay attention class, here we see Liberal make a complete disconnect with reality even though anyone with a web browser can see the folly of his post! This is a class of humor that humor historians trace back to the “Dead Parrot” sketch of Monty Python. Humor by forcefully ignoring the reality of a situation, and arguing against said reality.

It’s genius really.

I see a future in sketch comedy!

Ah, but that would be a slight upon the Glorious Leader, which would be Bad. It would also be funny.

It actually has a laugh track? I was kidding. I would have figured they would use a live audience. It couldn’t be that hard to find a group of morons to laugh at bad jokes for a free lunch.

Actually, one of my brightest memories of this place is a scene that Liberal wrote that takes place in with Bush in the Oval Office. It was frikkin’ great. I have no link at the moment.

hang on-

So the man knows from funny.

How many of the twentysomethings they’re going for even know who Marion Barry is? “Bitch set me up” happened in 1990, when the oldest of current twentysomethings was 12 years old.

Okay - That was funny.

But then, I found the cadence of the “We’re gonna offend these people” shtick funny.

Of course, I’ve been listening to Bush on the radio for the last half hour, and my funny meter may be broken.

There’s their Hillary Clinton joke, too. Expect to hear a lot from them about the Hillary Chicken Dinner: Two small breasts, two fat thighs, and one left wing.

Seeing as one comment from me gets the plural “all”…

I’m not really offended. I’m repulsed - there’s a difference. For starters, I really can’t get any more offended over I can on the issue, and honestly, there’s nothing here to be offended about. It’s like if someone had a “KKK and Proud of It” pin. I wouldn’t think it was offensive, I would just think it was really stupid. Get the difference?

And if I’m remembering correctly, it was crazy religious right wingers who got into a huffy fit about gay penguins. Not left wingers. I’m not the only one who remembers them getting all upset that someone might even acknowledge the possibility of other kids of families to kids, am I?

In short, I honestly don’t care what these people do. Let them try to poke fun (and fail) if they like - I just find it sad and disgusting that they want to celebrate their idoicy.

Hillary Clinton, junior senator from New York, announced today that she is black.

[…cue transcript…]

“I’m proud to say that I am descended from an ancient African tribe.”

[…cue images of “Lucy”, the Australopithicus afarensis…]

The senator assured reporters that her announcement had nothing to do with the success and popularity of Democratic presidential candidate, Barack Obama.

“It doesn’t bother me if he calls himself black,” Ms. Clinton said. “I fully expected others to be jumping on my bandwagon.”

Obama responded through a spokesman:

“He harbors no ill-will toward the senator from New York. In fact…”

[…cue Photoshopped graphic of Obama…]

“…he will be announcing this afternoon that he is a woman.”

CarnalK, are you a Canuck? A journalism student? A Canuck journalism student?

It shouldn’t be, but it seems rare to bump into anyone familiar with This Hour Has Seven Days. Always bumfuzzles me. It’s right up there with See It Now. People have goldfish memories.

Four days from airing and there’s NO website? No mention on the front page of FoxNews.com? A search for “The Half Hour News Hour” on FoxNews.com comes up with exactly one link… To a clip of Hannity and Colmes showing a portion of the clip that was linked to in this thread. That’s if you searched for the exact title of the show in quotes. It wasn’t there last night either, I checked. Not exactly great advertising.

Why no website? Why nothing on the front page of FoxNews? The first airing is just a couple days away!

Seriously, that laugh track was very poorly-done and distracting. Hearing the exact same laughs starting at exactly the same point and at exactly the same volume for each joke does not make one want to join in.

I don’t think your day job is in any immediate jeopardy.
