Darn you, **MLS** , why didn’t you post this earlier? I’m eating plain mashed potatoes right now. I could have made myself a special ‘surprise’ treat. (tongue in cheek - which would probably look and taste better than what’s in the picture) ---

Oh, how I LOVE it when Lileks updates his regrettable food section. I honestly wish I could get my hands on those recipe books, because I love collecting kitschy items like that. And: Coffee Jello! Mmmmm. Goes down cool and easy. ---

An Aussie friend once sent me a copy of **Be Bold with Bananas** , a '50s cookbook I’d been hunting for ages. For a cocktail party, I made the obscene-looking “Banana Candles” (which involved whipped cream on the tips!). None of the guests would _touch_ them.
