Merely being ‘below the poverty line’ would be an impossible dream for them. They had less than nothing. I had to do something. I took Frankie in, and gave her a hot meal and a warm bath. I gave her warm flannel pyjamas, and a glass of milk before I put her into her soft, warm bed. The milk was poisoned. She drifted off to sleep forever. She’ll never know a life of poverty. I knew I could make it happen. ---

**Two WWII Strategy Questions Is it possible to fall asleep while walking? Has Anyone Ever Changed Their Fingerprints?** The Nazis experimented with both strategies before invading France. First they tried moving sleepwalking troops up to the jump-off points to avoid the need for rest breaks, but they kept stumbling into things. The concealed-identity-through-new-fingerprints ploy failed when the soldiers’ fingers were too sore to shoot their weapons. Eventually they settled on blitzkrieg, and the rest is history. ---
