More surgery in a week. Wish me luck. (long and possible TMI)

Yes, the surgery was Friday. It’s a good thing it didn’t get put off again. Turns out the infection in the sutures was MRSA, which is a particularly dangerous and potentially deadly form of staph infection! As a result, the surgeon ended up excising a lot more tissue than she had originally planned on. I was still able to come home that day, though. The surgery started on time (well, 10 minutes late, pretty amazing for surgery!) and I was home by 5PM.

I felt really crummy Friday, of course. Felt pretty bad yesterday. But I slept better last night than I did Friday night, and today I’m not feeling all that bad. I’m not feeling all that great, but, you know, it’s not as bad as it could be.

Thanks for asking!

MRSA is scary, I’m glad they caught it.

Good luck on the recovery.

Oh, that sucks. Had they cultured it before, or did they just do this at this current surgery? Seems to me that a would refusing to heal for months should have been looked at from a microbiological point of view fairly early on. when you went back and they cleaned out an abscess, did they tell you what caused it?

MRSA’s a nasty bastard. It’s around hospitals a lot because there are so many antibiotics flying around and it’s a good environment for resistance to build up in these organisms. But it’s all over the place these days. Do you know if you’re a carrier for MRSA? Did they do a nasal swab to see if it’s hanging out up there? Might be a good thing to look into before any other surgical interventions, because they can pre-treat you before the surgery to lessen the risk of an infection.

Hope you heal quick.

HEY!
I resemble those remarks. I feel like I was personally acknowledged in an Oscar Acceptance Speech! YAY ME!
Good luck with everything and have fun with the happy meds!

Prior to me going to the wound clinic, where two infected sutures and the abscess were removed, a doctor swabbed the stuff oozing out of the incision, and it came back as “not infected”. The abscess itself and the sutures were never inspected for infection, AFAIK.

Don’t know if they swabbed my nose or not. I’ll have to ask my surgeon.

And yes, she speculates that the MRSA is exactly why it didn’t heal.

Thanks for the good wishes, all.

My goodness! I’m so sorry I’m seeing this late.

Glad to hear that things are coming to a happier end. ~hugs~

::Waves to Kricket::
Don’t worry about seeing it so late, thanks for dropping in to wish me well!

I’ve actually had an appetite today, whereas Friday and yesterday I was forcing myself to eat because I know I need the protein. This morning, though, I woke up hungry and hubby made me two fried eggs and a piece of buttered whole-grain toast. I had a peanut butter and banana sandwich on whole-grain toast for lunch. Mmmmm. For dinner, hubby is making some meatballs in brown gravy (he’s using frozen meatballs, he’s not really a cook), banana and strawberry salad, some mashed potatoes and green peas. He should be home soon to start cooking, and I’m glad because I’m getting hungry again! This is a good sign!

Oh wow. MRSA is scary shit. I’m really glad the operation went well and hope you’re feeling back to normal soon. And that that wound closes!

Holy crap, that stuff is scary. closeclosecloseclose thoughts and healing thoughts too!

well, so far, all looks good. Dressing changed today and seepage is slowing dramatically. I’ll see the surgeon in about nine days and hope for good news!

Hey, frozen meatballs made with love are the best!

Glad to hear you’re progressing so well, getting the appetite back is a great sign. MRSA is scary, did they just cut it all out of you or how does that work? Are you on super-antibiotics now to make sure it’s all gone?

closecloseclose!

Glad they didn’t postpone the surgery again! Yay for returning appetite! Hope it closes up right this time around.

GT

uff da!! that is a bit scary.
more close! close! close! and heal! heal! heal! thoughts heading your way.

Everything is good when you’re getting your appetite back!

She removed all the tissue that was obviously infected and I am now on Super-antibiotics!
