This is me as well.
Lived around Chicago most of my life except for college downstate.
I get big, white, raised welts which itch intensely, but if I can manage not to scratch them they mostly fade out in about 20-30 minutes. However the site sometimes remains reactive for a day or two, such that if I go back and scratch a lingering itch, they’ll sometimes flare up. If I give in and scratch in that first period, they’ll pester me a for a couple of days.
I’ve been the CA Bay Area for a little under 30 years now.
How does it take mosquito bites to go away?
Four to six weeks if they ulcerate, two if they don’t - I’m allergic. Good for me, huh?

If I went to the moon, mosquitoes would still find me. Classic example of how they seek me out: me and two brothers in the same tent for a weekend of camping. I count 95 mosquito bites on me. They count about 15 between the two of them. At Yellowstone last month, I got out of the car to get a picture as the sun was setting. By the time I got back in the car, I had 12 mosquitoes on me.
The length of time the bite lasts depends on how deep/long the bite was. 3 days minimum, 2 weeks or so maximum. The bites don’t all itch at once; if I get bit a lot, the smaller ones don’t start itching until after a day or so.
I was born in California and now live in Washington. I have been bitten by mosquitoes everywhere I have been, including most states in the Western US, Canada and Mexico. (In Mexico, I was the only person in a group of 30 to be bit, but I saw and killed actual mosquitoes, so I know it wasn’t something else). I think Las Vegas is the only place I’ve visited without being bitten.
For how many days during the year are you bitten? SOunds like you’re blowing my other theory here.
