Back in the 70s and 80s there was a music show on Australian TV called “Countdown”. It was must watch viewing, if only because there was only one other channel in most cities. The host (Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum) had some connections, so it drew stars from around the world like Elton John and David Bowie, as well as exposing Australian talent like INXS.

It basically got killed off in around 86-87 by a dance track that had these lyrics:

\*Boom Boom Boom
Let’s go back to my room
So we can do it all night
And you can make me feel right
\*
I am not going to google that tripe and find out who the artist was, because doing so would diminish me as a human being, but it was possibly the worst piece of “music” ever written. Suffice it to say that that songs milkshake brought Countdown’s boys to the yard, and the shows fifteen year run as a national Sunday night staple soon ended.

😕 Does that actually mean something in Australian?

Actually, Killimanjaro is kinda beyond the Serengeti, the lyric is “As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus **above** the Serengeti” which is false.

Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I got what it takes
She said “I’ll turn you on sonny to something strong, play the song with the funky break”
And go-cart Mozart was checkin’ out the weather chart to see if it was safe outside
And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride
Asked me if I needed a ride

> "Boom Boom (Let's Go Back to My Room)" is the debut single by American singer and model Paul Lekakis. Released in 1987 on ZYX Records, then picked up by Polydor Records for a wider release, the song peaked at number 43 on the US Billboard Hot 100, number six on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart and number 60 on the UK Singles Chart. The single fared better in other parts of the world, staying at number one for five weeks on the Australian Music Report and for three weeks on South Africa's S...

The song was a #1 hit in Australia. Are you saying that playing this song led to the cancellation of the television show?

**“Suffice it to say that that songs milkshake brought Countdown’s boys to the yard…”**
I also have no idea what this means.

> Nobody’s mentioned Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” yet, have they? Do the “Glee” people not know that the song is about homeless teenage prostitutes?!?!?

Where do you get these ridiculous interpretations?
While it’s possible that the lyrics _may_ refer to prostitution, it’s definitely not what the song is about.

> Yes, absolutely, but I don’t know if “insipid” is quite the word for it. For me, like quite a bit of Tom Jones’ stuff (most notably “Delilah”), and some Barry Manilow (“Cococabana”, “Bermuda Triangle”), falls into “so bad it’s good” territory.

BM’s _Bermuda Triangle_ certainly includes one of the most utterly groan-worthy forced-and-contrived rhymes that I’ve ever come across –

“But look at it from my angle:
All the fun I’ve had [or something to that effect]
Bermuda Triangle –
Not so bad.”

And THAT WORD is “deuce”, as in a racecar or a roadster.

_Fly Away_ by Lenny Kravitz
(Lyrics by Mrs. Johnson’s 1st grade class)

\*I wish that I could fly,
Into the sky,
So very high,
Just like a dragonfly. \*

_I’d fly above the trees,
Over the seas,
In all degrees,
To anywhere I please._

Anything made by these “artists”.
System of a Down(bad music, retarded lyrics, bitching about AG), Die Antwoord(extremely stupid lyrics and pretentious white-trash style), Creed(more like Pearl Jam for overly religious rednecks).

> My vote for the worst lyrics ever written:

Those lyrics weren’t written, though.

Are we counting vocal samples that are chopped up and then repeated in DJ songs? If so, I think the list would be never-ending.

You might not like the original lyrics as written either, but they weren’t

“Right about now, the funk soul brother/ check it out now, the funk soul brother”

They were:
“Check it out right now, it’s no other than the funk soul brother”- sampled from Lord Finesse out of another song and remixed.
