# Most Attractive Hobbies?

This Daily Mail article (quoted in the New York Post) claims women think reading is the most attractive hobby a man can have. Languages, cooking, music and woodwork are rated highly. It rates many other hobbies, finding merit in archery and blacksmithing and less merit in arguing online, porn, and (shockingly) knowing a lot about superheroes or the manosphere.
**Wondering what you think of the list, and also which hobbies women have which men like (and dislike) the most.**
Given the enthusiasm for reading and blacksmithery, one also feels the list applies to England more than America. Of course, the modern romantic appeal of archery as seen in a million movies is kind of confusing to me.

I used to entertain dates by reading French cookbooks while playing guitar, sitting on my handmade wooden chair. They never seemed to last, though. So much for _that_ survey!

Some of the stuff on “least attractive” is pretty subjective. I’d assume that women who are in to at least Funko, mj, clubbing, MTG, anime and cosplay are attracted to and meeting men doing those hobbies.
My boyfriend is in to MTG and comic books. I totally zone out when he talks about MTG but we do like to talk about comic books, even though I’m not a collector.
But I can definitely see that the “least attractive” list is going to make one less attractive to women at large.

My wife had a ‘hobby’ of racing in full IronMan races. It’s was closer to another job though with all the training that went into it. I was her sherpa. I lugged gear and bicycles around (Oh and was there to call 911, or take her to the hospital).
We both used to be divers, but, we both don’t feel quite capable enough anymore. We would only dive about every other year. Not enough IMHO, to stay safe.
Currently though we both have one ‘hobby’. Chess. Almost every night (4 games last night). We love it, obviously. And it helps keep us sharp I think. We have 4 chess boards. One on the porch, one upstairs, one downstairs. One travel board for sitting by the pool when we travel. Yeah, we like chess.
We will be retiring soon, and want to do a little gardening. Oh, and I just bought a dart board, she was in a league in college. I suspect I will get my ass kicked.
When I commented to my Mom how I found it surprising that my wife liked chess and was so competitive, my Mom said, are you kidding? She was an IronMan. Oh… right.

When I first met my husband we were attending freshman orientation and he talked copiously about the X-Men. I wouldn’t say it was love at first sight. (He’s still obsessed and now he’s getting our five year old obsessed. Help me.) It was more like, “That guy’s weird and nice." Still my general impression.
Reading (and writing) are sexy as hell. The only thing potentially sexier than a literate man is a man who does humanitarian work.
Taking care of small creatures is also attractive.
One of my long-time friends I often crushed on has detailed knowledge of strange creatures, especially marine life, and he integrated this along with a talent for art into these strange and wonderful illustrated novels. He’s presented me with gifts of sea slug drawings and the like over the twenty years I’ve known him, and sends me weird-ass shit like frog-themed Advent calendars. I don’t really have feelings for him anymore but this sort of oddly specific combo of detailed knowledge and artistic expression is what attracted me to him in the first place. More than any specific hobby, I think I may be inherently attracted to weird. (I try to reciprocate. I got him a t-Rex Christmas ornament and I’m cross-stitching him an Axolotl.)

IMHO, I find hobbies that involve original creation to be very attractive. Such as someone writing a novel, a song, etc. It’s like a window into their mind/heart.

Can be. I write and record songs… but I’m rather a technician too.
Some of my songs come from the heart… others are just a bit of fun: let’s see if I can create a song in _this_ style….
