I’ll also go with **The English Patient**. And I agree about **Lost in Translation** – I fell asleep watching it, too.

That never happened with **2001**

There are a lot of bad science fiction movies where nothing much happens. Either they mistake long, dull, and boring for profundity, or they can’t afford special effects, or both. Things like **UFO: Target Earth** (not to be confused with **Target Earth** , which is stupid, but in no way boring.)

> **[UFO: Target Earth](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFO:_Target_Earth)**

> UFO: Target Earth (also known as Target Earth) is a 1974 American film directed by Michael A. DeGaetano.
> The film opens with "'eyewitness accounts' recounting incredible UFO sightings and abductions", according to sci-fi scholar Howard Hughes. The story follows an electronics expert (Alan Grimes) who picks up strange signals: he then finds the signals are coming from a rural section in his area, and tries to find out if this is the start of an invasion from space. I never could figure out how the Paranormal Activity movie had any viewers. Long high-angle shots of two people sleeping?

_[Heavenly Bodies](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087399/)_. Two hours of aerobic dancing.

Even the sex scenes were boring. And I was a hormone-crazed teenager when I made that assessment.

I think the topic is more interesting when confined to major movies. It’s easy to find examples of bad movies that are pretty much forgotten (or might have been if it wasn’t for MST3K). I’d say the most boring thing I’ve watched along those lines might be The Starfighters. Even Mike and the Bots couldn’t help.

Agree with this! I went to see the film because of one brief intriguing scene which I saw in a preview: Nicole Kidman is walking away from the camera and her dress slips off. That scene was sensual and sexy. It takes place near the beginning of the film.

The later scenes that were supposed to be sexual were indeed boring. And the non-sexy scenes were uninteresting as well. I did enjoy seeing the 30-second scene with Nicole, but the entire rest of the movie was unnecessary. And I am a big Kubrick fan.

With a few exceptions, any movie from the 1950s on MST3K is REALLY boring even with the riffs.

As mentioned above, **The New World** is amazingly dull despite some wonderful cinematography. I gather that **Tree of Life** has the same issue. I do like Malick’s earlier work, however.

I can’t believe no one’s mentioned the current darling of the critics and the Academy, _Roma_. The cinematography was great, and the acting was very good, considering almost no one in the cast was a pro, but the story was soooooooooo slllooooooooowwwwwww.

Two and a half hours in which almost nothing happens. The plot could have been compressed into a 30-minute short, and it would have been more emotionally powerful.

I missed most of _Hoodwinked!_, the story of Little Red Riding Hood told as a kids’ detective comedy, because I slept through it. Borrrrrrrrrring and desperately unfunny.

There’s an old actors’ tale that there was once an amateur production of _The Diary of Anne Frank_ that was so bad that, when the Nazi troops arrived onstage, someone in the audience shouted, “They’re in the attic!”

I actually think FF:TSW makes more sense if you’ve played FF7. It doesn’t make it a good movie, but themes are similar.

Yes, I’d forgotten that. I had the same reaction. The animation was also firmly lodged in the Uncanny Valley.

Never saw the English Patient.

I donno, I guess it depends on my mood. But ‘A River Runs Through It’ bored me to death. Think I was expecting something else. Same goes for ‘Shakespeare in Love’.

I love ‘Lost in Translation’ Very touching with some very funny moments. I re-watch it a few times a year.

Yeah, it’s up there.

And Star Wars, Ep. 1, whatever its title was.

YES!! Thank you breaking the ice ahead of me. I can’t believe the hoopla over this film. Mrs. Cretin and I found it ridiculously slow, self-indulgent, self-consciously “important” and heavy-handed. Our only point of disagreement with you would be the acting, which didn’t seem at all remarkable to us.

It did have its moments of comic relief, including Nicole Kidman regaling Tom Cruise with details of her _horrible_ nightmares about having sex with strange men.

My vote for most boring mainstream movie that was intended to be gripping is _Three Women_. I don’t need to have car chases and things blowing up to enjoy a movie, but jeez, that thing was stultifyingly endless.

I disagree. There’s no way _Tombstone_ could be considered a contender for Most Boring Movie.

But ‘Movie With Most Mis-Cast Actor Or Actress’…
