I once saw an SUV decked out to look like an official presidential protective service detail vehicle. It had police lights, several antennae, slivered out windows, etc. Closer inspection revealed stickers supporting Trump rather than official government insignia. To top it off the license plate was TRUMP. The plates were from one of the small states in the northeast, Connecticut or New Hampshire IIRC. ---

Baby on Board bothered me until I learned the idea is to let onlookers know in case your car swerves into a lake or river or something. That’s fine with me and makes some sense. The yellow ribbon ‘Support our Troops’ is just raw jingoism. I am not sure what bothers me more, that others don’t see it or that this hollow and yet also nonsensical commitment is an easyily removable magnet. A neighbor has a sticker that says, ‘Support our soldiers. Bring them home alive. End the war’. That’s more like it. The black and white American flag with the one blue line bothers me. No one hates police officers doing a good job, defending criminal behaviour because tribalism is disconcerting. ---

Even **Mrs. R** , normally a hardheadedly practical woman, has a little hammer thingie on her keychain so that if her car swerves into a lake, she can break the window and escape. To my way of thinking, swerving into a lake has got to be around the 10E-9 level of probability. Might as well carry around a chainsaw so that you can get out if a tree falls on your car. ---

Which makes more sense than, ‘I’m special, my car and the lives in it are more important’ or whatever I had assumed before. Does your wife’s car have detachable head rests with the two metal spikes? I had heard those are for breaking cardoor windows in case of emergency. ---

Just saw a picture of a truck with a bp featuring a silhouette of a soldier in the kneeling firing position with the slogan “If you don’t stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them”. That’s straight up fascist. ---

Didn’t look home-made so presumably someone is making and selling this stuff. ---

Years ago I saw a jacked up pickup with what looked like custom lettering in the rear window that read “Jack 'em high. Fat chicks can’t climb.” If I remember correctly the writing was flanked by the naked lady silhouettes typically seen on mud flaps. There’s an SUV I see on the road occasionally with a personalized plate that reads “GLB WRMR” or something like that. Pretty clearly it’s intended meaning is “Globe warmer”. There’s another SUV I see on my commute sometimes – a 4-Runner that looks like it’s outfitted for serious off-roading. It has a bumper sticker that says “Don’t follow me, you won’t make it”. Honestly that one’s not so bad compared to the others, but it makes me want to ask the driver “What makes you think people would want to follow you in the first place?” ---

I always throw away the dealership license plate frame after I get a new car. I don’t understand why anyone would want to be a rolling advertisement for the place they bought their car from. Unfortunately the stickers dealerships sometimes apply are pretty much impossible to remove. ---
