I played EVE Online in a null sec corp, and was an industrialist - I mined asteroids and planets for resources to build stuff … I made the joke in corp chat once that I should put wireframe ships in my mom-van window, an [Orca](https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Orca), a couple [Hulks](https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Hulk) and some [Drones](http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/item.php?type_id=2446) … my corp leader commented that if I did, I would soon be followed by some little sportscar with a [Rifter](https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Rifter) in the window =)

My husband wants a [Drake](https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Drake) and some drones on his car window =)

> From the OP’s list, the ones that irk me the most are low riders and spoilers. Some kid lowers their car so it’s an inch of the ground, and this is supposed to be cool, I guess. Then they put a spoiler on the back, like they think their little Honda is a race car.
>
> I saw one of these a few years ago that made me downright angry. I was behind one of these idiots while he was spending 30 seconds going over a speed bump, and I noticed the stencil on his back window: “Please have patience, I’m lowered!” Well, this had the opposite effect. For a few seconds, I seriously considered confronting this guy after he parked his car to explain that I am NOT going to have patience. Because he deliberately turned his car into a traffic problem, and asking me to have patience about it is as obnoxious as it gets. I didn’t, of course, but it was a nice little fantasy.

I asked a kid with an old Ford Escort that had put a three foot high spoiler on the back:
“What did your mom say when you put that on her car?”

Shouldn’t safe driving be paramount, regardless who is in the car around you?

A while back now, in Los Angeles, I saw a limo with a bumper sticker that said “Yes, I am a movie star”. It just seemed like the right kind of whimsy, of not taking yourself too seriously. I always wonder who it was. But that wasn’t bothersome.

> I always throw away the dealership license plate frame after I get a new car. I don’t understand why anyone would want to be a rolling advertisement for the place they bought their car from. Unfortunately the stickers dealerships sometimes apply are pretty much impossible to remove.

Not if you make the dealership remove them.

On just about\* every new car I’ve ever bought, I’ve made a point to tell the dealership NOT to apply the dealership logo on the vehicle. I tell them they can include a dealership license plate frame if they want (because it’s easily removable), but that I don’t want their logo permanently applied to the back of my new car.

About half the time they “forget” and put it on there anyway. I make them remove it before finalizing the purchase.
\*The exception was a car bought from the dealership owned by a family friend, which was yet another reason NOT to buy cars from dealerships owned by a friend (along with giving up all of your power to negotiate a good deal, of course).

If some jerk in a pickup is having a fit of road rage because he thinks you “cut him off” when changing lanes and he’s driving at 50mph a few inches behind your rear bumper, maybe this gives him pause before he does his overtaking and swerving in front of you maneuver.

I ignore the annoying ones, but cherish the funny ones. Seen quite a few that have made me or family members laugh over the years…

NEVER drive behind a VW Bus!

Nuke a Gay Whale for Jesus

God is coming…and IS SHE PISSED!

The funniest one for me can’t be mentioned in polite company, but it involved stick figures and a dirty variation of the VW marketing phrase Fahrvergnugen. I almost fell over in the parking lot laughing when I saw it. Best of all, I pointed it out to my brother, who only grinned quietly, while he and I were both in a conversation with my Dad, who seemed oblivious to the humor. Oh well.

\>\> “I don’t understand the Baby on Board signs…rant rant rant…”

I have always taken these to be signs notifying potential rescue workers, after the crash, to look for and hopefully save the infant, who may be in trouble in some corner of the vehicle.

These accidents do happen with babies on board…I was a baby, riding in a portable carrier in the back deck, and got flipped over after my parents’ VW bus (see the connection?) was rear-ended and we were sent off the road into a shallow ravine. We were OK. This was long before strap-in type car seats were a thing.

I saw a car with a “Don’t like this flag? Dial 1-800-EAT-SHIT” bumpersticker, flying (1) a U.S. flag so ragged and torn that it looked more like a swallow-tail pennant than a flag. Literally, with a tear down the middle from the flying edge almost all the way to the pole edge, and (2) a pristine Irish flag. :dubious: Ironically, I didn’t like his U.S. flag, but not for the reason he meant. :smack:

Interesting…do you also read the Register? Many posters there use “obligatory” and “XKCD link” in the same sentence…

Being unfortunately too prone to literalism, I always imagine that they actually bought the vehicle as a tribute to their deceased loved one, as in, left the memorial service and went directly to the dealership to honor so and so.

On a related “not understanding the motivation” note there are probably still “in memoriam” listings in the printed newspapers, which I used to skim regularly when I got a delivered newspaper (Newsday on LI, 15 years ago), mystified that anyone would spend the time or money to but a notice about a long-dead loved one in the paper, for what I imagined was only my bemusement.

I thought that Baby on Board was more for the First Responders to know to look for the baby inside the wreck, not to avoid the accident in the first place by hopefully appealing to other drivers’ (limited) sense of sympathy (“OK, won’t rear end THAT car because of the baby, need to find another target”)

In Los Angeles I’ve been seeing cars with dark tint on their tail lights, and some even with their headlights tinted.

I’m not a fan of campaign bumper stickers either, especially the ones for elections that occurred years ago. That said, I’m OK with “GIANT METEOR 2016 - just end it already!”

That’s fascinating. I never read it that way. I always thought it was a call to stop discriminating against other religions (or no religion) including Muslims.

See this video for some examples: [https://youtu.be/P\_GJGLy3EVE?t=40](https://youtu.be/P_GJGLy3EVE?t=40)

I forgot about those, but I hate them too. I generally don’t mind many of the things others mentioned in this thread. Huge spoilers, lowriders, whatever; they’re not to my taste but if the owner likes it then more power to them. But darkening your taillights and making them less effective crosses the line to dangerous. I was behind a pickup with blacked out taillights at night once, and I seriously had trouble telling when his brake lights were on because his brake lights were no brighter than the the regular nighttime running lights of the other cars around him. His third center brake light also wasn’t working, which exacerbated the issue.
