Like others, I went to a party once where some dudes dressed up as the World Trade Center. October 2001. They had “jumping” Barbie dolls hanging off their costumes (big boxes) and one had a plane stuck in him. They did a “re-enactment” by bringing another plans and ramming it through the other guy’s costume. For some reason, it didn’t offend me too much. Mostly because I was astonished that they had the balls to do such a thing. After their re-enactment, they left and changed costumes. They returned in lab coats with big pickle jars that had goo and baby dolls in them. They were “abortion doctors.” :o ---

I saw a guy at a party about 10 years ago dressed as Superman- a guy in a dark suit pushing himself around in a wheelchair, with his shirt unbuttoned to reveal the “S” on his t-shirt. The year John John Kennedy’s plane went down, my friend and his girlfriend went at John John and Carolyn Bessett- flight goggles, plastic seaweed hanging from their clothes, bloody gashes on their heads, airplane yoke worn around his neck. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are a lot of Cory Lidle costumes this year. ---

Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bunch of girls dressed as Amish students riddled with fake bullet holes at parties this year. ---

I don’t think it would fly around here just yet, though. I know an awful lot of people who wouldn’t be so much offended as disgusted by it so soon. Anyone who pulled that here would find himself in the middle of a big circle of empty at any party he went to. ---

Last year I got a yellow hazmat suit and attached doll arms and legs all over. Added some red marker and went as Planned Parenthood. This year, I’m making arab costumes and attaching dynamite to my partner’s and my chest and going as suicide bombers. ---

I had a fraternity brother that always tried to have the most offensive costume at our party. One year he went as a mushroom cloud and his date was a japanese lady. I have also seen the priest and pregnant nun outfits. ---

Preists have already been mentioned, but my friend has a different spin on it–his costume consists of a black outfit, a borrowed Bible and a sign that says ‘Choir boys inquire below.’ I keep telling him he needs to get an altar boy to go with him, with a sign on his lower back saying ‘Exit Only’. ---

I went one year in a full on KKK robe and pointy hat w/mask. I did tone it down a little by adding “Have a nice day” a la “Blazing Saddles”. Even made a 2ft wooden cross that I soaked with charcoal lighter and lit right before ringing the door bell. ---

Right after 9/11 there was the anthrax scare. I wore a disposable painter’s coverall with a hood, a surgeon’s mask, rubber gloves and boots. I put the biohazard symbol on the chest and carried bags of white powder. I told everyone I was part of the hazardous material cleanup crew. Under the coverall I had on a priests outfit so I could give last rights if the cleanup didn’t work. The most offensive I saw was a teenager dressed as Jesus on the cross. He had the crown of thorns, blood dripping down his face, a huge bloody fake wound on his side, bloody whip marks on his back and he had bloody holes in his feet. His hands were tied to the cross but had bloody spikes in them. The cross was about seven feet tall. Because he couldn’t move his hands he had a girl with him dressed as Mary Magdalene (basically a Virgin Mary blue robe but wearing tons of makeup so she looked like a slut and she also had on fishnet stockings and high heels) who carried the goody bags. I warned them which houses to skip and told the girl to take extra candy to make up for the stick-in-the-mud neighbors. I did tell her not to give the guy any M&Ms though and she laughed. ---

I’m serious. [/QUOTE] Prior to 9-11, I had actually planned to dress up that year as a terrorist with a bomb strapped to my chest… I decided it wasn’t in good taste. The previous year, I had some fun by getting all “gothed out” as a costume… I looked like I was from a norwegian black metal band. I had corpse paint, eye liner, spiked color, net shirt, etc. Better yet, I didn’t say a word the whole time, I had a friend say “He says, ‘Trick or Treat.’” and “He says, ‘Thank you.’” for me. I don’t know if it was necessarily “controversial or offensive”, but I literally scared the hell out of a lot of people. I remember a few kids coming to the door, seeing me and running away screaming… and a many of the adults clearly looked startled or disturbed. Though a few just snickered and asked “Aren’t you a little old for ToTing?” ---

This morning’s Indianapolis Star had a story on local scare-houses (set up for charity.) They pictured three of the featured scary actors. There was a scary clown, a vampire, and a **dominatrix!** She was tricked out in a leather bustier that laced up the side, fishnet stockings, and a riding crop. Probably her work clothes from Babes strip club. A joke from an ancient Playboy spoke of a guy who showed up for a party wearing only roller skates and an erection. That is, he went as a pull toy. ---

A few years ago, my favorite bar had a Hallowe’e’n party. The dayshift bartender came as the Grim Reaper. At the end of the party, he had a heart attack. Imagine being on ER duty when that came in. He didn’t make it. ---
