Goetze’s caramel creams - They look quite tasty, but the caramel is so bland, it woudn’t be recognizable as caramel if they candy wasn’t labeled as such.

Candy cigarettes
Zero bars
Bit-o-Honey
Black licorice
Anything with mint

I think those were called Flying Saucers and they always tasted like communion to me, which is not my idea of an appealing candy.

I’ll throw my vote in for Licorice Allsorts which I hate but can’t stop eating once I start.

etc.

Can anyone tell me the name of this vile candy? It’s pink & white & black. Not Good & Plenty. This disgusting thing was square. I remember the black part tasting somewhat like black licorice, only grosser. That, IMHO, is the most disgusting candy ever made.

And don’t be dissin’ the Zero bars, \*\*dropzone.[/d] They’re awesome! Milkshake bars don’t suck, either. 😃

Far sweeter than candy are these moments where I can find an excuse to share my vast and generally useless knowledge of rock trivia! Long before Pearl Jam a very young Eddie Vedder appeared in a late 60s/early 70s Chuckles candy commercial.

I know what these are. They are pretty easy to find around Christmas time. They are called ‘cream drops’ or ‘creme drops’ and they used to be made with lard as an ingredient. May still be, I dunno. Some of my relatives used to eat these as kids, they were often eaten smashed on a saltine cracker. Never tried that.

Licorice is really bad. Anything cherry flavored is bad. Tastes like cough medicine. Chocolate covered raisins are the nastiest. They look like wrinkled mouse turds with chocolate on them. Yick.

Perhaps malted milk balls would be okay if they had real chocolate on them instead of carob? Yecch…anything with carob is a crime against humanity.

I always thought Licorice Allsorts were a barfingly disgusting combination of licorice, spearmint, and vanilla. Some flavors are never supposed to be combined.

I seem to remember Caramel Alsorts too. Caramel, spearmint, and Vanilla. This tasted just as bad as the Licorice Allsorts.

Anyone else remember “powdered gum” that used to be around awhile back? It came in odd flavors. I remember getting pickle, and watermellon. That stuff was **awful**.

My great grandma used to buy a certain candy mix that was mostly carmels and that sort of thing. There was one type, however, that was disgusting beyond beleif. It had a chewy-white body flecked with little brightly colored gummy bits…sort of like the the candy version of fruit cake. Yech!

Big chocolate freak here.

That said, my vote goes to any of the chocolate crap that floats around near Easter time that’s the gross, waxy kind of chocolate. A lot of chocolate Santas are made of the same shit. It’s an abomination before God!

A word here for godawful seasonal candies. I used to dread the inevitable presents on Valentine’s day of those tiny hard bright-red candy hearts, with heartburn-intense cinnamon flavour. No-one I know liked these much, & it was inevitable that I would come across in my room as a kid forgotten candy-boxes or the like full of these, months after Valentine’s day, solidified into a hard lump of sugar, cinnamon extract & red dye.

There’s also a particularly vile el cheapo variety of taffy or caramel or whatever which one only encounters at Halloween–they’re in extremely waxy orange & yellow & brown wrappers, & turn into an unpleasant sugary bolus when put in the mouth.

I’ve no idea if these are American sweets–my childhood was in Canada–but I assume they were probably fairly common.

…Two pages so far in this thread, and not a single sour-hater yet? My kid loves all those ultra-sour things. Although I thought I would eat anything if it had sugar in it, those things are just gross. #1 Disgusting American candy of all time, IMHO, is the candy paintbrush dipped in the sour shit, licked off, repeat until candy paintbrush acquires a razor edge, cut tongue, hit cut with sour shit, yell, repeat. (I think all that is actually on the label, just below “citric acid”)

When I was a kid there was a gum that came 5 sticks for a nickel. It had a purple package, but wasn’t grape. It was **Raisin** flavor! The name was something like “Zarno” or “Zarpo” or something like that. It was really gross. Anyone else remember this crap? I’m talking about late 60’s to mid 70’s.

Then there was the marathon bar, a 15 cent candy bar, which was a real long, laced bar of caramel and chocolate. This would have been really good except the caramel was always hard as a friggin rock, and the chocolate always cracked off in a million pieces all over the place.

Then…(PK goes on a trip down memory lane:p) there was that single stick of pink bubble gum a kid got with baseball cards and Wacky Packages. It was hard as a rock and crunched in your mouth. Everyone of my childhood pals HATED that gum, nominating it as the most disgusting candy in America. But I kind of liked it.

What I do hate though is any candy that’s butterscotch. Blech.

I was searching for a web site about that disgusting raisin gum. Didn’t find it, but I found another brand that makes raisin gumhttp:
[//www.chewinggum.net/newstore/details.asp?prodid=Raisin-CAN-Bubblic&cat=5&path=](https://www.chewinggum.net/newstore/details.asp?prodid=Raisin-CAN-Bubblic&cat=5&path=)
I bought some gum from a machine. It was called “hot chocolate”, chocolate flavored bubble gum. It was truely gross!

I despise licorice. I’m not criticizing anyone who likes it. I’m just saying that I, personally, can’t stand it.

Another American candy I hated was Ice Blue Mint Jelly Bellies. I thought the mint flavor was way too strong. I’m glad that Jelly Belly flavor has been discontinued.

The very worst candy that I ever tried was salted plums, but those don’t qualify for worst American candy because they were imported from Mexico. Ugh. It was like eating a solid chunk of salt. I spit out the first one and threw the rest of the bag away.
