Rob Marshall who directed Chicago and the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel that just came out and his sister Kathleen, the Broadway choreographer/director moved here when they were quite young and attended the same school I did.

The late jazz singer Phyllis Hyman wasn’t just from my hometown or neighborhood, she grew up in my family’s church. She sang at my grandmother’s funeral; my sister in law sang at Phyllis’s.

I mostly skipped pro athletes because (1) they’re generally just here because there’s no income tax, and (2) it’s like LA- the list would be huge. For example, about half of the WWE’s active roster lives in Orange or Seminole Counties.

If you mean in my neighbourhood, then probably this couple - Sir John Crofton (he played a key role in the control of tuberculosis) and his wife Lady Eileen Crofton (independently famous as a medical historian and founder of ASH). Sadly they have both recently died but their house, two down from ours, has yet to be put up for sale by the family.

In Edinburgh as a whole there are too many to mention but obviously include J.K Rowling (of Harry Potter fame).

Phil Garrido lived not three miles from me. Shopped at the same Safeway. I’ve asked the checkers, and they don’t find me nearly as off-putting as “Creepy Phil” as they say they called him.
