Yeah, the most harrowing part of this is how many tests were done. We’ve all seen the images from the most famous tests, but there were so many, many more.
Another good bit of real-life harrowing video is this one, a time-lapse map of all the nuclear explosions there have every been, done at a rate of about 2 months/per second, up to 1998:

As a teen, I read Asimov’s story “Silly Asses” and was astounded by the insight hinted at by the animation above: we (Humanity) are doing this all backwards.
We should have mastered space flight long before weaponizing nuclear fission, and using nuclear weapons on your own planet is actively suicidal.
