There’s a particularly obnoxious Jared’s commercial (yes, I know “obnoxious” and “Jared’s” are redundant) in which a moderately attractive woman walks through a clothes-filled walk-in closet the size of most bedrooms while talking about finding the right thing to wear for the occasion and then finds a magic door to Jared’s, because apparently this woman of privilege doesn’t have quite enough baubles in her life. Not quite sure what’s so off-putting about the commercial except that it’s just tacky and ostentatious. ---

Those men come across much better if you assume - as I do - that they’re passive-aggressive men with shrewish greedy girlfriends who’re trying to wheedle diamonds out of them. Trolling for the holidays. Also, Tom Shane has the absolutely worst voice to use in advertising: smarmy and grating. It’s worse than Brook Dubman’s smarm. ---

This is the worst holiday season I’ve ever seen for pushy jewelry ads (worst offender - Kay’s). I am really, really sick of the “this is how we do it” Dish network ads. This is how _I_ do it, Dish. (click) ---

That’s a shitty commercial, like virtually all car commercials, but I kinda love the fact that pick-up trucks - as traditional a symbol of alpha masculinity as you could ask for - is being advertised by associating them with laser sword wielding space wizards. There is no “geek culture” any more. It’s just “culture.” And that’s awesome. ---
