I once confused the hell out of someone in WoW who had the language filter on, when I told them my cat was a Maine Coon. Apparently “Coon” gets filtered due to being a racial slur. I found out much later that the tabby cat pet your character can have in the game was originally supposed to be a Maine Coon and they had to change the name for the same reason. :smack: ---

My wife is Japanese. On one occasion she was unable to register at some website (can’t remember where); the system kept complaining of her inappropriate username choice. It took a while before we realized that her last name has “shit” in it, and that this is what the system was complaining about. Similarly, a friend was once called into his boss’s office to explain why he had been attempting to send electronic documents containing vulgar language through the company’s email system. My friend had no idea what his boss was talking about. His boss angrily showed him a vague automated alert from their IT software. My friend finally realized it was from an email he had sent to a Japanese contact; just as in my wife’s case, the Japanese fellow’s last name contained the word “shit.” My friend was thoroughly annoyed that his boss had actually gotten angry before doing any fact-checking. Moreover, the email my friend had been trying to send was substantially delayed because of this fiasco, costing his employer significant money and goodwill. Ouch. ---

Years ago when I worked at a comedy club, some of us went out after work and played some bar trivia, with those remote console things. We wanted to be team “Comedy.” The name, however, was rejected because it contained “Come.” ---

Here’s a good one I got off of google: Hinckley tried to buttbuttinate Ronald Reagan, he was well trained in the use of the firearm. _sblackpersons_ I didn’t know he was THAT obsessed with Reagan! ETA: Another good one: Having lived through the 1960’s, when “off” was a verb meaning “buttbuttinate” ( as in “Off the Pig!”), I see yet another way to parse this. I DEFINITELY see another way to parse this… ---

I once made an edit on Wikipedia mentioning the year 1666. It was auto-reverted on the grounds that it contained an obscenity (the number 666). ---

I was on a forum for awhile that did this, and many hilarious hijinks ensued. “He’s being an ass.” = “He’s being an buttocks.” “WTF is this shit?” = “What the have sex is this poopy?” “Breast cancer awareness walk” = “Bosom cancer awareness walk” There were many gleeful threads exploring all the possibilities. Pretty fun place, LOL. ---
