I’m an RHPS fan, been to the movie many times, danced the “Time Warp” in the aisles, brought my lighter and my confetti and my water pistol and my toast, and know all the audience responses (“Slut!” “Asshole!” “Say it!” etc.). I made it through thirty seconds of that Donny and Marie presentation before I had to shut it down. That’s not the “Time Warp”; that’s an abomination of the “Time Warp.” Jeez, imagine the outcry if Donny and Marie had done “You got Tribbles/Right here on the bridge deck/With a capital T and that rhymes with ‘See!/Me here on _Star Trek!_’” ---

What the producers did was order the ending of the pilot changed after it was shown to preview audiences who indicated they didn’t like it. They didn’t want either Andy Renko or Bobby Hill to be killed, so Esterhause’s line to Furillo went from “One in serious condition, one DOA” to “Two in serious condition.” The pilot then went on to be the first episode of the series. ---
